Women and men are wired differently. Feminists don't understand that, they even want us to sit down to pee, I kid you not. They attack manspreading not realizing we have testicles and crushing them together is very painful. Feminists even say that a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. What man says that about women? Instead they say "you can't live with them, you can't live without them."

If Albi represents toxic masculinity there is no hope for anyone. Dude was a complete “simp” with almost no traditional masculinity. I believe it's because of the two different ways masculinity and feminity are constructed. Yes they're both social concepts that each come with certains expectations regarding behaviors, ways of dressing, ways of being, etc. but Masculinity is also a social status : hard to obtain and even harder to maintain. It's all very messed up and so very easy for a man to fall too far on the end of the spectrum. That being said toxic feminity also exist, but the social contexts of both masculinity and feminity are so different it's hard to properly compare the two.

Ever notice how many curse words are designed specifically to disparage women? There’s entire bodies of literature dedicated to bashing women for their femininity. How can you be this out of touch? Not seeing world through the eyes of anyone but yourself and your victim complex is a dangerous thing. Misogyny is everywhere and you’re priority is “boo-hoo men being bullied” while women have to deal with actual oppression. White Lotus’s nuance is why it’s my favorite show of the year. Albie’s toxicity definitely isn’t on the same level as most of the other male characters, but no one is perfect. He’s easy to sympathize with (in fact he was my favorite character) because you can see how hard he’s trying to be better than his predecessors, which is very admirable, but he’s clearly young and inexperienced with relationships, especially because he hasn’t seen any healthy male role models in his own family. He’s grown up watching the women in his life suffer, most specifically his mother, and subconsciously looks for someone like her he can prove himself to. He can’t fix his mother’s pain, but he hasn’t accepted that and is looking for a romantic experience to fill that void. He wants so much to be unlike his father and grandfather that he goes too far in the opposite direction, and ends up in a place where he needs the validation/approval of a woman, which taints his interactions with them and causes his kindness to fall flat. He’s at least somewhat aware of this but hasn’t yet addressed his inability to be attracted to an emotionally healthy woman. That’s what unlearning your trauma does for your love life, it changes who you feel drawn to. An emotionally healthy woman wouldn’t have even pinged on his radar because she wouldn’t have needed his rescuing and it wouldn’t have soothed that part of him that’s afraid he isn’t good enough. I love Albie’s character, because he represents the hope of their family line. I thought it was amazing seeing the generational progression of their issues, and how they all fall somewhere short, either by a little or a lot, because it’s just so human. You can see how far he’s come past the baggage he had to grow up with, and while still so young, you can be sure he’ll continue learning and growing into many times the man his forefathers could ever be. Everyone’s at least a little toxic in one way or another and that’s okay, all we can do is try to improve on the cards we’re dealt 😊

I'm confused cam "makes everyone uncomfortable and they just deal" yet she's actively attracted to him. And cheats on her husband .. for him Ethan's partner only wants to sleep with him the morning after she saw cam's relationship. And then she cheats on Ethan with Cam. I mean the fact that she always likes picking things apart and critiquing things, is kinda obnoxious. The white knight is more entitled than toxic. And I feel like the only reason men get frustrated is cause we are tired of being shit on for different things we're either toxic, weak or invisible, and we don't talk about feminity in the same way

Looking at this comment section I think a big issue with ‘toxic masculinity’ as a term is the departure from the original definition. I could be wrong but I thought initially toxic masculinity was referring to the way men are socialised to suppress their emotions under patriarchy and act behaviourally aggressive more generally(an expectation exacerbated by both men and women) and that manifesting in ways that are harmful but now it seems it’s widened to any rlly bad behaviour that a man displays is labelled toxic. If I’m right it’d make sense that women aren’t labelled as having toxic femininity cos the active and persistent suppressing of emotion isn’t usually a pressure put on women. If anything it’s the opposite as women are usually expected to be emotional, sometimes overly so, and naturally be in touch with their feelings. I think the muddying of the definition is rlly unhelpful cos it alienates a lot of ppl especially men who feel attacked and so they just rail against the whole idea when dogmatic adherence to toxically masculine ideals harms men just as much as women. Ofc you’ll have those ppl who will rail against it no matter what cos feminism or downfall of society or whatever but for people who are just genuinely confused it doesn’t help but different terms go through this process all the time like the word ‘gaslighting’ for instance. Annoying but kind of inevitable.

An even bigger villain than Cameron…come on now. Harper was crude and unsympathetic but she was never as horrible as the narcissistic aggressor that is Cameron. Her poor behavior in interactions and relationships with women “friends” is clearly her character but that has nothing to do with her relationship with her husband. Ethan wasn’t giving her attention because of the way she was treating Daphne and suggesting that’s reason enough for the lack of attraction issues in their own separate relationship is irrelevant.

I love this show, i just finished season 1. while these traits are toxic I wouldn't attribute them to masculinity. To me toxic masculinity is toxicity derived from some sort of internalized sexism. Like when men feel they need to act a certain way to behave manly or macho. Like with the aggressor. But just because a man is being toxic, it doesn't mean he's exhibiting " toxic masculinity". But that's really just semantics, I really do love how the show manages to weave the stories of a diverse amount of characters together with all their vices and negative attributes.

Albie learns NOT to be a white knight anymore to the tune of a $50K loss because he thought a hooker was a "victim". Plus why did almost all the men fail to worry about catching something from these two escorts. He blackmailed his father for the money. The grandfather was a treasure because of his flirting. In the finale all three properly turn their heads when an attractive woman walks by at the airport. Albie also learns not to be a gentleman when he loses out on sleeping with Porsha because he makes no move on the first date (and another guy does). The most toxic men in the series were the ones who tried to kill Tanya. Yes, the non straight ones were the ones Tanya rightfully shoots

The thing about the open book is, that while you make think must of them believe that because they’re open and brutally honest that it shouldn’t matter what they say. That’s not true. Some are like that. The majority of us DONT GIVE FLYING FUK if you think what we say is ok or not. It’s the truth. The truth doesn’t care about your feelings. It is their to enlighten and make you self reflect, however it’s said. For example: if someone cheated on someone and told me, I’d called them a lazy egotistical coward who doesn’t have the balls to break up with somebody because they’re afraid to be alone, which would be factual… cause that’s why everybody cheats. It doesn’t sound pretty but against the truth ain’t meant to be pretty.

And before some psychoanalysis pseudo smart person says “WELL ACTUALLY ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE SHOW ARE SHOWN TO BE NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF HUMAN NATURE AND RELATIONSHIPS” I counter and say “touch grass and observe human interaction”. This show was a masterful expose on social interaction, people forget no one is really good, nice, or righteous. The toxic men in this show are those who were trying to kill Tanya (and I'll bet Portia was supposed to be killed as well, but Jack got a conscious).. The grandfather was liked by the female characters, especially Portia who shared a water bottle with him (during Covid even). His flirting was not seen as rude or toxic by anyone other than his overly feminist son and grandson. The most anti human toxic comment I've heard in a film was Albie saying that people should be neutered after a certain age so they won't bother younger people with their sexuality. The son was toxic for possibly exposing his wife to the diseases a prostitute might have. The grandson, mostly for the same reason, should not have been OK with learning he just slept with a prostitute, especially after losing Portia because he was too much of a gentleman by saying good night too early on the first date.
