Toxic mining project rises from the dead 💀

A plan for an exploratory drilling permit to mine UNDER Birch Lake was approved yesterday. Antofagasta, the Chilean mining giant behind the Twin Metals mine, is attempting to resurrect their dead proposed toxic sulfide-ore copper mine on the edge of the Boundary Waters.
This is perhaps their most dangerous proposal yet. Underground mining in water-rich northern environments has a history of collapse, not to mention this type of mining has the potential to contaminate waterways and groundwater.
Twin Metals has pried open the door to drilling on vulnerable state and private lands next to the Boundary Waters, short-circuiting our ongoing state lawsuit, and undercutting the Biden administration’s 20 year protections for the federal lands in the watershed.
This is a real life horror story for the Boundary Waters.
