The shocking fact is the tank, that leaked out the deadly MIC into the air and onto neighboring areas close by, had a storage of 30-35 tonnes inside. That it how much it had leaked when the disaster struck. Plus there were 2 other storage tanks that had the same amount of MIC inside!

Indian government bureaucracy, apathy, and indifference. The real news story is what caused this to suddenly come to the front burner and become a big deal after 41 years of the toxic stuff sitting on the site and leaching into the ground water. Maybe a politician is running for office or a developer wants the site cleaned up so they can build nearby. But it’s not simply for the health, safety, and welfare of the people. You can be sure of that.
@karko929223 күн бұрын
As per latest CM interview It took 25 years for the carbide waste calm down (non scientific term) , then all the top goverment science and pollution related institutes Studied the Samples , Performed various mock tests to dispose the sample , After seeing no negative effect on the environment and surroundings the supreme Court of India Decided to give a green flag to the disposal. Apart from 25 years it took 15 years , to satisfy all the needs of supreme court . its a long process buddy

This catastrophe of 40 years ago still leaves it's mark on many Indians even today since a huge portion of the victims was never recognized and was never offered compensation for loss of household providers or in cases of severe handicaps, both cognitive and physically leaving families debilitated and facing insurmountable odds in trying to keep itself together within tightknit communitis. Especially nefarious are the many cases of birth defects in the years afterwards which has crushed families beneath the care-burden. It's a clear case of how only the loudest, the most well-off, those with highest social status was compensated by government and business owner, and it is one that will keep haunting indian society until the government choses to end it by acknowledging all that was made victim of the chamical spill in Bhopal.

@@RitamSanyal I suppose potentially much worse given how business to a large extend owns politics in the US.
