I think that at that point they could not be certain that the entire population of the city would turn into undead. Still though, even if Arthas was certain that all habitants of the city would turn into undead it was an immense act of cruelty which furthered Arthas downward spiral.

Something that's also interesting that I didnt mention is that when Arthas ran into Gavinrad, Arthas offered to let him live and to not hurt him if he simply stood aside and let Arthas pass. Gavinrad refused and insulted him which angered Arthas. Arthas then responded by saying that he would kill him, raise him into undeath, strip him of his free will and make him an obedient servant. Despite saying this though, when Arthas killed Gavinrad, he did not raise him into undeath. Instead, he let him enjoy the peace of death. Reign of Chaos was released in 2002 and Starwars episode 3, where the parallels between Anakin and Arthas killing their own people could be drawn, was made in 2005. The tragic story of a man who descends into madness and pure evil is not uncommon, and the archetype of a warrior monk (Paladins, Jedi, etc.) is often used in pop culture. Warcraft got their concept of the Paladins from Dungeons and Dragons Paladins, not the Jedi of Starwars.

He was a complex person, who believed he was doing the right thing until he had fully succumb to corruption. His story is a dark one about a fallen hero.. A fallen hero Warcraft will never forget. Even to this day, I hold wotlk as my favorite expansion of any game I've ever been able to play. I can definitely see where Arthas felt he did what he had to do.. And in the culling of Stratholme, I really didn't see any alternative myself than to purge the city of infected. The best heroes aren't afraid to take charge when in the darkest of hours.

Arthas's changewas a lot quicker than the lore updates changed, just playing up the drama. I haven't played W3 for years, but I still remember the dialogue like I heard it yesterday. "Finish it," Sylvanas sputtered, blood in her throat "I deserve a clean death." Arthas stood above the general, not in victory, merely in grim determination. "After all you've put me through, woman, the last thing I'll give you is the peace of death." He didn't rush over to Muradin after the dwarf was impaled. He was already broken. He merely looked at the fallen comrade, almost quizzically, then his attention was consumed by Frostmourne, landing right at arm's length.

Honestly, playing through Warcraft 3, I understood exactly why Arthas was purging Stratholme. Yes, he was a Paladin. He ALSO was the Crown Prince and would someday be king in Lordaeron. His kingdom was being ravaged and his citizens wiped out by the Scourge Plague...and he had to find some way to curtail that. He had tracked the tainted grain through Stratholme and realized that practically the entire city was infected and would soon fall to the plague of undeath and the Scourge. If that happened any forces he dedicated to quarantining the plague would most likely be overrun by the wall of undeath surging from Stratholme and then turned to the Scourge. As much as it pained him, he thought the best (and most likely only) course of action was the purge the city. Better his citizens die than be converted to a colossal army of Scourge.

When he become a Death Knight, he was just a pure badass villain with no remorse. He saw, he come, he conquered. His arrogant even make him even cooler. And When he become lich king, god he even more meancing with his deep tone, and how he taunted the player throughout wrath and let them fall into his trap. It this kind of story telling blizzard need to focus on. Singular chatacter instead of the big overreaching story. Blizzard can't never deliver this good of a story line again. You see this with the current legion story line. Wow right now only care about crafting the universe, creating a meta plot line with big bad villain that has no depth. They dont dived into character dynamics anymore like warcraft 3 did. Even Mist of pandaria have way better story line than even the current legion right now due to the political dynamics and how it effect the character like jania, vojin, thrall, garrosh, varian and anduin. Now it just world building and big threat that is meaningless. No matter how disconnects and ridiculous the horde and alliance storyline at stormheim, it was at least interesting and intriguing. Legion threat however is just typical bad guy with the same one liner "this world will burn" like yeah we heard you guys like billion time.

Mike4 Plays yes that is what blizzard told you after what you saw in WC3, it is just how they justify the plot hole to bring back muradin for WoW, can't you see this? they also changed how sylvanas was transformed into a banshee, i think in a book or in WoW they tell you that it took a very complicated ritual to bring her back as a banshee, when in game it was fast and satisfying, right when she was expecting a fast death. this is the same with Illidan, they revived him twice already, you can argue that you don't actually see him dead in the WC3 expansion ending but he clearly dies when you fight him in dark temple, even saying to maiev that she is nothing without him, without a prey, now they say he was inprissoned instead of dead, are you seriously telling me that you cannot see the difference? this is just lore adecuation to fit the new raids and dungeons, to give WoW the nostalgia factor it needs to be alive, didn't you heard the actual explanation for the warlords of draenor stupid arch? they literally said they did it because it was "cool" and then they thought how to justify it. edit: i think the new extra shit from sylvanas transformation was in the sunwell graphic novel trilogy.

The thing was, Arthas sacrificed his soul not Muradin even in warcraft 3, it never stated that he sacrficed Muradin. Ticondruis even said this in the undead campaign IN WARCRAFT 3 NOT WOW "Your was the first one it claimed" when talking to Arthas about how Frostmorune can take living soul so obviously it didn't take Muradin soul. It just the Ice Block hit Muradin so hard that he thought Muradin was dead.
@samirgomeznovelo7468 жыл бұрын
Thinh Vo i think that was a metaphor, in WC3 they never say it can take the souls of the living, why didn't they mention that muradin was alive? to bring him back as a plot twist? it was just a lazy justification for WotLK, and it would even worse if that was actually intended plot since no one was amazed or happy with that dumb part of the story. and there is a quest in WoW where he get rids of his humanity and all that shit, it was terrible too, but in that quest line its implied that he still had a fucking soul, even in this video is mentioned how he still had some humanity, a person without a souls is like sylvanas, even when she has her own will the bitch actually don't have a soul and she only cares about her goals, killing arthas and now that he is dead, she wants the undead to procreate.

I really loved the soundtrack, Black Rock And Roll. It really reflects the mixed emotions of the campaign, the courage, the desolation, and deception. Especially the ending, reflected the betrayal, when I had to march those brave men to certain death, and by their own Prince himself... So much emotions...

The light responds to faith, not morals. It left Arthas at Stratholm because he himself was losing faith in that what he was doing was right, even though it was the only way. Meaning he truly did have a conscious.

A mere prince who merged with the most powerful being on Azeroth(considering Old Gods are locked away with hardly any influence), a demigod of death,. It is said that both, Arthas and ner'zhul held back from unleashing the Scourge's might because of the unstoppable force that it is, though, its a pity, if any of em did, Azeroth would have already fallen long before Wrath expansion time period. So as cool as Arthas was, he kept the Lich King entity from its true potential, because the lore states his true power is immesurable in essence, and also because it grows/expands infinitely, a trait no other bad guy possesses, not even Kil'jaeden, hence why he wanted his creation dead, as the LK was becoming a threat.

arthas's paladin part of himself kept the scourge back.
@Kristers_K8 жыл бұрын
Its stated that even Nerzhul never dared to unleash the full might of the Scourge, because by doing so, it would be like an unstoppable swarm of death, destroying everytihng in their path. For that reason it must always be contained, otherwise all of Azeroth is doomed. Imagine insect swarms in real life,they destroy vast areas of crops and kill countless animals, and its practically impossible to stop em because of the rate they devour everything and reproduce, you kill a part of em, 5 times more will spawn and take their place.

its an old wow joke :p "If Arthas' horse is called invincible how come I can see it?"
To be fair, he didn't really betray his own people until he burned the ships. The people of Stratholme were done, the options were give them a quick death, or let them unwillingly become mindless troops for the undead. Anyone with a shred of logic would of chose the latter.

I find that struggle in Arthas mind is very important in the lore, as well as the evil thoughts and actions of Nerzhul who betrayed kiljaeden himself ... it's like everybody have some evil and good inside and they are also influenced by Greater forces, but in he end the desicion is on the characthers. That's why there is Free Will in WoW and you can see bad guys like the Defias who have nothing related with the Felmagic-BurningLegion or the OldGods-TwilightHammer-Shadowmagic. And so we can say that Arthas was proclive to evil and he choosed that way so he deserved what he got ..... but then rises another question; When he died he said that he was seeing "only darkness" and Terenas ghost said "no king rules forever" ... I think both sentences are from Yogg-Saron ... in wich case He was the real master of puppets and therefore there are no Free Will in WoW... Nice videos as always, greetings.

If I might add, the reason why Arthas killed all of these people was because the wheat they were using to make bread was poisoned to make them into undead. He was trying to mercifully kill them before they ended up turning into the undead.
