I was 24 years old when I saw this in the theatre and I marvelled at the quality of the animation, the humor in the writing and the performances of the voice talent. And even now, at twice that age, I still cry with sadness at Randy Newman's 'I will go sailing no more' and with elation at the crescendo of the soundtrack with "...this isn't flying, it's falling - with style." It's perfect.

Fun fact: In the early stages of CGI, they had trouble making skin look real. It looked plastic or shiny. So, the animators decided to make their first CGI movie on toys since they are plastic and porcelain. Also, the writer said he got the idea of the movie by watching his kids play and wonder what would happen if the toys were alive.

For awhile at DisneyWorld, you could yell, "Andy's coming!", and the Toy Story characters in the area would drop to the ground for a few seconds. Once this started happening *constantly* and exhuasting the Florida costumed-actors, they changed it so their handlers would say, "No, Andy's away at college!"

Dasha wouldn't recognize it, but the tool box that was on top of the crate that Woody was in was a Binford which is is a nod to the voice of Buzz Lightyear, Tim Allen. When watching a Pixar film be on the lookout for the following items: 1. Pixar ball; a yellow ball with a blue stripe and a red star. 2. At least a cameo of John Ratzenberger up till 2020’s 3. Pizza Planet Truck 4. A113 (probably the hardest to find) Also, much like Marvel films, there are post-credit scenes, including “outtakes” of the movie.

It's still the foreign language I can speak best. 3:02 Also, it's only now that I understand the military terms. 4:56 And the Star Trek and Star Wars references! The writers for this movie had a list of "Don't Do" clichés they were tired of seeing in every Disney movie. No "I want to . . ." song, no love story, no generically _eeevviiilll_ villain. They decided what movies were missing was a solid "enemies to buddies" movie and did everything they could to shake things up and write something people hadn't seen a hundred times. It wasn't even a Disney movie at the time; the movie got its funding from Apple's Steve Jobs. And this was all done before digital editing was really viable; every single frame of animation had to be rendered onto physical film to then be spliced together by hand in the old-fashioned way, as 100% digital filmmaking was still a decade away.

Living toys when we are not here is one of the most common fantasy children can have. As a matter of fact the tale is inspired from a Maurice Ravel music piece 'The child and the Spells" (direct translation from me, I don't know is the international English title is thus) where a child not wanting to do his homework is surprised by his rebelling living toys that won't let him to play with them until he does his homework or something along those lines.

Why is it the Minions from Despicable Me are so popular/iconic yet the Pizza Planet Aliens from Toy Story aren't as popular/iconic? I've never been a fan of the Minions at all, but even the first time I saw Despicable Me I enjoyed everything in the film except the Minions. Part of the reason why they were annoying was the fact that they only spoke in gibberish & the occasional word, but I realized after a while that they are blatant ripoffs of the Aliens from Toy Story. Think about it: The Aliens are 3 eyed green aliens with oval heads in blue jumpsuits that often speak in unison, & only say a few things. The Minions are 1 eyed yellow round creatures in blue overalls that often speak in unison & say even fewer things. But the most annoying thing about the Minions to me is that (much like a lot of side comic relief characters in animated kids films) they are far too overused & take away from the seriousness of scenes while the Aliens are sparingly used to make a quick joke & lighten the mood (or at 1 point save the day) then move on. Finally, while there are some who argue that the Minions are far more useful as sidekicks/helpers to the main cast than the Aliens, the Minions (as shown from their spin off film) cause a lot of problems for the people they work for, meanwhile the Aliens (as we saw from the Buzz Lightyear animated tv show) are actually scientists & engineers that are key to Star Command rather then a hindrance to Buzz & the other Space Rangers. Sorry I went on a rant in this comment, but I really can't stand the Minions, so it bothers me how "iconic" they became in popular culture when they are so annoying as side characters especially when compared to the Aliens.

Buzz getting knocked out of the window was an accident as that's NOT what Woody intended to happen. He was going to get him knocked behind the desk. In fact, in an earlier version of the scene, Woody did this on purpose (he had a different personality being mean and insulted everybody) and the toys confronted him. They grabbed Woody and was about to throw him out of the window too until Andy's mom came. This was the so-called Black Friday-reel which was based on Jeffery Katzenberg's notes of the movie was too juvenile and had to be more edgy. The Disney heads thought the result was awful and wanted to shut the production down and take director John Lasseter and the story guys to Disney to keep a close look on them. They refused and asked them for two weeks to turn everything around. They improved the story and the Disney heads thought it was good this time and Pixar could start on the animation.

has to be the best movie franchise, every movie is top notch, it's a magical movie, like Jurassic Park or the Goonies or Hook, have you seen Hook? I used to play with action figures like that..the stories I could come up with..I mean every day I would play with those toys, haha I wish I'd recorded them, I mean what the heck is a kid ever really thinking? But yeah, a little bit of video gaming and then back to the G.I. Joes..for years. I didn't need much as a kid.

I feel like we think of Woody as a saint as a culture. But watching this as an adult with my own child a few years ago, I felt like Woody was a real asshole for a lot of the movie.

The first 3 Toy Story movies are pretty great. The franchise turned into a really good trilogy.. But then they had to go and make another one a few years ago, I think. I never heard anyone talk about that one, so I don't even know if it's good. Probably not, considering how movies, especially remakes and reboots, have been in recent years.

"The only toys coming alive are children's toys. But there can be much more toys in the house..." Yeah, you probably hint at "Woody" and "Buzz"...

You're one of the few people who seems to realize Sid isn't pure evil. His home situation shows signs of not being the best. For instance, his dad is at home in the middle of the day sleeping with the TV on. Some people theorize he's there because he's unemployed and possibly even passed out drunk. Personally, I think Sid has anger issues and expresses himself by destroying and tinkering with inanimate objects. He's actually pretty creative and smart if you think about. He just needs a better outlet for his frustration.

"Toy Story 2" is IMHO the best "Toy Story" film. It's the "Empire Strikes Back" of the series, quite literally.

There was a movie that came out 9 years before Toy Story called The Christmas Toy that has pretty much the exact same plot. I still have it on VHS from when I was a little kid. Loved both movies by the way

You should definitely watch the other films! They're great! Also, you can see how the animation gets better as the decades go on.
