In 1994, the 4 guys in charge of Pixar got together for lunch & brainstormed ideas for other films they could make if Toy Story 1 was a success. During that lunch, they came up with the ideas for Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc., Finding Nemo, & WALL-E.

Story: My brother was a RAF Harrier pilot and did a PR 'job-swap' with British Airways; He got Concorde. So, off he went to New York, and the BA captain brought him up front to take it up past Mach One - to the usual cheers from the passengers. When he went back to his seat, he saw a man excitedly videoing everything. He asked bro how come he could go up to the cockpit. 'I'm a Harrier pilot on a PR Job-swap.' 'Harrier?? That's my favourite ever plane apart from this one!' The guy explained his secretary had booked him on Concorde as a surprise. Bro asked what he did. 'I'm a film director' 'Oh, great. Anything I might have seen?' 'Possibly. I directed Toy Story and my name is Jon Lasseter.' Bro told him they had a Buzz Lightyear on Squadron and when they scrambled they tapped him on the head and said 'To Infinity and Beyond!' Which is why bro has an open invitation to stay with him if he's ever in Los Angeles..

@@ericjanssen394 Yeah. In the short he plays himself in chess. At point, as he's losing the game, he "tricks" himself by faking a heart attack and falling on the ground. As the other "him" he checks to see if he is alright, at which point the guy switches the board and walks away with his prize. A pair of dentures. If it's not alzheimers it's a form of schizophrenia. I don't think so though.

For me, that scene actually spoiled the reveal in Empire Strikes Back because I saw Toy Story 2 first and, because I was a little kid and hadn't realized that the first three Star Wars films were older than Toy Story, I thought that Star Wars actually got that line from Toy Story 2! XD

If you think about it, The Prospector is the 1st Twist Villain in a Disney/Pixar film, & he started a trend over the next 2 decades of more Twist Villains in their films (some better than others).

Baggage handling varies a lot from airport to airport, but there are some systems that are reasonably close to what is in this movie. One of the first such highly automated systems was that at Denver International Airport, which went through a long period when the airport was new where the baggage handling system didn’t work well at all, misdirecting, losing and even damaging many bags. News reports on the debacle were some of the first times that the general public got a detailed look at what goes on out of their sight with baggage handling. The DIA experience is now frequently used as a case study for how engineering design and project management can go wrong. I’m sure the moviemakers had this in mind when they came up with this scene.

Trivia note: The Pizza Planet Aliens were originally supposed to be pizza slices with sunglasses, but the creators of Toy Story decided to lean more towards Planet then Pizza for their mascot, which was a smart decision since the Aliens became so iconic both in The U.S. & abroad (particularly Japan & South Korea) that Pixar brought the Aliens back for each of the Toy Story sequels.

Shortly after this movie was released, Disney made a movie called Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command The Adventure Begins. The movie follows Buzz & a team of Space Rangers who travel across space to stop Evil Emperor Zurg from taking over the galaxy. The movie was followed up with a cartoon show, & many of the epsiodes can be found on KZbin, but sadly it hasn't been released on Disney+ because of a contract dispute with Pixar due to their Lightyear movie.

The voice of Stinky Pete in this was done by Kelsey Grammar. Around the time this film was released, he was still starring as the title character in the TV sitcom "Frasier". It originally ran from 1993 to 2004, but it's about to get revived on one of the streaming services.

The Cleaner is Geri from the Pixar short Geri's Game which was shown before A Bug's Life in theatres (and as bonus material on the home media (you can see the chess pieces from the same short in one of the drawers of his toy fixing kit). He's voiced by late Jonathan Harris, who also voiced Manny in A Bug's Life. Originally Al was going to fix Woody himself but director John Lasseter and co came up with that Al wouldn't be that kind of guy but to call someone to fix toys for him. Since this idea came so late in production, they had neither time nor money to make new character model so they came up with using Geri from Geri's Game, so they put his model in the files and he became the Cleaner.

There's a theory(that may have been confirmed but I'm not sure) that Jessie's former owner Emily is Andy's mother. This theory began when fans noticed that the cowboy hat Andy wore in the first movie bore a striking resemblance to the one Emily was seen wearing in Jessie's flashback.

Add to this that Jessie is one of the Toys that is handed to Sully when he returns Boo to her room. So one could also argue that Boo's name is actually Emily

Why is it The Minions from Despicable Me are so popular/iconic yet the Pizza Planet Aliens from Toy Story aren't as popular/iconic? I've never been a fan of the Minions at all, but even the 1st time I saw Despicable Me I enjoyed everything in the film except the Minions. Part of the reason why they were annoying was the fact that they only spoke in gibberish & the occasional word, but I realized after a while that they are blatant ripoffs of the Aliens from Toy Story. Think about it: The Aliens are 3 eyed green aliens with oval heads in blue jumpsuits that often speak in unison & only say a few things. The Minions are 1 eyed yellow round creatures in blue overalls that often speak in unison & say even fewer things. But the most annoying thing about the Minions to me is that (much like a lot of side comic relief characters in animated kids films) they are far too overused & take away from the seriousness of scenes while the Aliens are sparingly used to make a quick joke & lighten the mood (or in this film save the day) then move on. Finally, while there are some who argue that the Minions are far more useful as sidekicks/helpers to the main cast than the Aliens, the Minions (as shown from their spin off film) cause a lot of problems for the people they work for, meanwhile the Aliens (as we saw from the Buzz Lightyear animated tv show) are actually scientists & engineers that are key to Star Command rather then a hindrance to Buzz & the other Space Rangers. Sorry I went on a rant in this comment, but I really can't stand the Minions, so it bothers me how "iconic" they became in popular culture when they are so annoying as side characters especially when compared to the Aliens.

There was also a Jurassic park reference when the Dinosaur was chasing the little car. What I like about this series is that even though the movies were released years apart, elements from the old ones make it into the new ones to keep the story going.

The funny part about the Star Wars reference near the end is that at the time PIXAR was a division of Lucasfilm and wasn't fully owned by Disney until the late 2000s (and Disney purchased Lucasfilm im 2012).

The outtake with Stinky Pete ad the Barbies were taken out of later Blu-ray editions and on Disney+ due to #metoo incident, in which director and executive producer John Lasseter was exposed for alleged sexual misconduct towards employees, causing him to take a six month sabbatical and in 2018 he left Disney and Pixar after his contract ran out.

if you asked me what my least favourite movie is, for personal reasons it's this one. The original is the earliest movie I can remember seeing in the cinema and have great memories of it, seeing the second one all I can remember is the villain doing the 'Buzz, I am your father' thing ie. referencing Empire Strikes Back and I can remember even at 8 years old thinking that was pathetic. Not that it's a 'bad' movie but it's the earliest I can remember noticing this trend of postmodern winky circlejerking pop-culture self-reference in lieu of original or engaging content that today pretty much dominates pop culture, that was my first taste of it.Maybe that scene/line wasn't even pivotal, but that's what stuck with me and I haven't seen it since

I prefaced it 'for personal reasons'.. the point is that pop culture is endlessly self-referential often in lieu of bringing fresh and new ideas and this movie was the first time I can remember noticing that, at 8 years old. What great 'point' am missing, according to you? The point I observed at 8 was deeper than anything you've said

I am curious what version were you watching? In all the modern versions of the movie, the outtake with Pete and 2 Barbies is cut out. The only version I have that still has it is my old DVD.

It's always been said there's a bit of veiled humour for the adults in kid's animated movies... but that scene was a bit of a shocker. It would be great if Pete had a cameo in the new Barbie movie!

This movie was definitely a worthwhile sequel to Toy Story. I would definitely recommend you watch Toy Story 3. As someone who grew up watching these movies, the third one definitely left me feeling very emotional. Also, the ant and caterpillar at 25:19 are from another Pixar film called A Bug’s Life which I also recommend checking out.

Pixar movies are great to rewatch. You catch more little details each time. This time, I noticed the game console n the shelf was a NES. I also noticed the sticker on Buzz's butt in the airport, is "Butte", which I assume is the Isle Of Bute, in Scotland.

His batteries are branded from the company "Buy 'n' Large"... the same guys that created WALL-E and the Axiom. Also in Toy Story 1, when Woody and Buzz get lost it was when Buzz left the car at a gas station.... a DINOCO gas station, as in the sponsor the Lightning McQueen wants to have.

Usually sequels aren't as good as the original, but Toy Story 2 is equal or better. Toy Story 3 is even better, but Disney should have left the franchise alone after Toy Story 3. The ending had a good final closure to it.

Denver International Airport, when it first opened in 1995 had the most automated luggage handling, 150 computers and 22 miles of tracks ... and it didn't work ;-( They continued to try to make it work for 10 more years, but it never worked! Wasting $230 million. Dubbed "the baggage system from hell". The third movie isn't as good.

10/10 Even Better Than The First 'Toy Story' Here's yet one more sequel that more than lived up to its original great start. The first Toy Story was outstanding. This is just as good, if not better. Very fast-paced and very entertaining, this doesn't have a lot of laugh-out-loud parts but is definitely fun to watch with many good lines. What I appreciated was the lack of a nasty villain and any evil overtones, as was the case with the rotten neighborhood kid in the first film. I also appreciated the fantastic surround sound on the DVD, along with the magnificent colors. Not to be forgotten is a wonderful, tear-jerking song in here, sung by Sarah MacLaclan. It gets to me every time. When you factor in all the nice characters, music, colors and sounds, this has to be one of the most beloved animated films of the modern era.

This makes me think of the ending of the book "Winnie-The-Pooh" which, with Halloween coming, unfortunately also makes me think of the crappy 2023 horror movie "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey." As much as I dislike that movie, it would make for an interesting reaction and discussion - maybe not for Dasha though if she didn't grow up with Disney's Winnie the Pooh.
