Love flyers like these and toy ads in comics. The Sears and Mongomery Wards Christmas catalog was almost more eagerly waited on in my household as the actual getting of toys. And now, such a blast from the past.

Here in the states, we had an auto chain called “Western Auto”. Our local one sold toys and was my go-to for Star Wars figures.

6:36 YES, the mini monsters from REMCO (and some of the large monsters too!) sat on toy shelves for so long that - even in 1983 you'd see them in the packages with shelf wear and damaged cards / rippled peg holes - etc. !! You could not GIVE them away !! I guess Return of the Jedi wiped all the competition off the map as well. Other toys that sat on the shelves until the packages started to show wear : Ideal Manglers (Manglores ?) , Bugs and Rocks and Things (weird concept !) , Ideal or Remco motorized Spiderman , Mattel Suckerman, Clash of the Titans Pegasus (none of the figures - just the Pegasus ), Mega Buck Rogers ( No Buck or Wilma) , Moonraker (No Jaws or Holly) , Black Hole (all but the Female character) , Star Trek the Motion Picture (TONS of the Kirk & Spock dolls with the vinyl heads and PLUSH bodies) , Battlestar Galactica (the Asparagus creature, the Pink Blobby creature ONLY) . After the early 1980s -- Toys R' Us kept a VERY TIGHT inventory in there stores . You did NOT see a lot of CLEARANCE after that . I barely remember MOTU stuff on clearance by 1987 1988 1989.

That was fun Brian. I remember seeing Canadian Tire ads on Buffalo TV. I also remember playing that Adventure Atari game but not on my own console (since my parents wouldn't buy it...we got knock off Pong instead ) but of course on my cousin's console! The game that rang a bell was Tri-ominos. That must have been in the mark downs bin even back then because I believe both myself and my sister got it. I don't think we ever played it except to play with the triangle shapes!

Very often the music he chooses for his montages makes me laugh and this one was no exception. It sounds like the soundtrack to an Italian James Bond knock off, but it showcases vintage toys from a promotional flyer. It had me rolling.

Great video, I was surprised how expensive the electronic toys were. Coleco had an AC adapter that was way ahead of it's time. It used blanks to get the correct battery size and voltage; no plug port needed.

As pictured in this catalog, I remember my brother and I getting the Hot Wheels City playset and the Chain Lightning mini dominoes set (and of course an Atari). Those dominoes were really tiny and fiddly (closer to the size of Pez candy than actual dominoes), but there were layout cards, ramps, and other tricks that made those fifteen seconds of dominoes finally falling down that much more exciting. I think this became a bit of a craze for kids here in the US due to the popularity of TV shows like That's Incredible featuring segments on people setting up world-record breaking domino falls. At the end of the day, though, you were just left with a mess to pick up and a few choice words from mom when a lost domino or two would get sucked into the vacuum and make a bunch of noise as they rattled around the beater bar.

I got the Pacman board game for my seventh birthday in 1982 and I can attest to what a terrible game it was. The only redeeming factor is the little pacmen it came with had a cool gobble gimmick to swallow the marbles and that was kind of fun. I don't think I ever play through a single game of it. I also had a lot of space lego as a kid and as a result never had good wheels with which to make cool truck type vehicles. I would make my own starwars vehicles which was really fun. I had a home made Xwing although it looked more lke the VolksWagon logo than an x. The Space lego were the first lego I ever saw that had a piece that would allow studs to be placed at 90 degrees to other studs allowing me to build tie fighters for the first time. Still grass is greener and I would have loved some large wheels from the farm sets back in 1982.

I had a couple DAS smurf sets. Got them at Jay Kay Toys here in Michigan. I made quazi-star wars/smurfs out of them. I ended up just eating alot of yhe modeling clay. It had a distinct taste. Better than plado, but with a more chemicley note. The paints were not as tastey as Testors model paint.
