Toy Man Television You must have more money than I do. Brass engines have never been cheap but I guess you get what you pay for. I started in O but rapidly realized I needed to model in N as an adult to have any size of layout. Still Plan on having a shelf O scale shunting yard. Close to where I live in Melbourne Australia is the Puffing Billy Railway running since 1900, but as a preserved line since about 1962 (More detail in vid caption) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5y6Ymp8m6dkmac An On30 model of it to a standard I would like to achieve: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4iXkH9tYtZ7rNk My first trip on it when I was four. My father's family used it as transport to their 1930s holiday block in the 1930s. Quite a history behind it and an Icon of the state. One of four 2ft 6in gauge lines in the state of Victoria. This one is the most preserved and pre covid ran trains daily. It is a 41km suburban electric train ride from Flinders Street major station in Melbourne to Belgrave. Change from a 5ft 3in gauge electric multiple unit train to a 2ft 6in gauge 1900s era steam service for the stations up to another 24km away at Gembrook. Mainstay are 1890s era Baldwin design 2-6-2T but a Beyer Garrett is used for some of the larger trains. Also have other steam such as a Climax. Any questions you may have I would be pleased to answer. If you start me I would likely end up telling you more than you needed to know.

I had just visited the Texas State Railroad found in Rusk and Palestine, Texas. The TSRR has five steam locomotives. I saw four of them. Tremont & Gulf Railroad 30, Santa Fe 1316, Texas & Pacific 316, and Texas & Pacific 610. And the fifth one that is at the TSRR is Southern Pine Lumber Company 28. And 610 was also the locomotive that pulled the American Freedom Train. It’s one of the three steam locomotives that pulled the American Freedom Train. The two others were Southern Pacific 4449, Reading 2101, and then we have Texas & Pacific 610. 610 had also went to the Southern Railway for steam excursions. Then came to her new home, in Palestine, Texas at the Texas State Railroad.

I knew a guy who built an entire or scale railroad in his yard as a garden rail road and I’ll be darned if that didn’t work! I love your idea! I have many times taken my G scale stuff outside with the snap track and just put together some track and run trains around and then taking the whole thing down and brought it back in the house just for the Fourth of July or whatever. It’s really a great thing so do it!!

Structures have always been Steve’s favorite things. Mind you he is scratch built absolutely everything that goes on the rail road including locomotives, but his favorite is scratch building detailed structures with Ford interiors

There’s been a lot of kids around here are starting to pick up mobile railroading in large part because the local club is promoting that. Thank you for posting, seeing the updates to the On30 layout through the years always makes my day. Narrow gauge of any kind just tickles me pink, I love it. Especially with how much care, love, and attention that is put into the layout with all of the repurposing of older elements into the new layout. Makes me really excited because I've been saving up to make a rather large purchase of Bachmann rolling stock from a local train store as a gift for myself as well as a means of supporting them in these times (Need to check ahead to make sure they are still open of course). Please do keep uploading videos on Steve's layout, it really does make my day seeing the layout grow and evolve over time, and just makes me excited to be adding to my hobby collection little by little every year.

Nice to see again Steve's railroad. Always amazing to see his work. My scratch built turntable is simply man powered, like the prototype, and the small locks are functional (made in brass). I think it is a lot more easy than a motorized turntable, when having just a few tracks. I like Peco On30 track, but the turnout isn't very reliable on my layout, my self made copies are less derailment prone. Next time I need a turnout, I will continue to make them myself, but for the track, Peco is fine.

Actually Steve told me today that only three of the switches are pico the rest are handling. The hand like ones were great with the pico ones can be a little bit finicky

That’s really an amazing way out is if you look closely Steve has just about filled in with the new peninsula. A bit more scenery and track ballast. The music I buy from Smartsound. Been using it for 20 years. They sell it with rights so I can use it on KZbin. And I can edit and really change it as it’s recorded one instrument at a time. So I can take some out or remix.

Hi Dave. Indeed!! We totally changed our layout plan to make everything easy to reach. Ther will be one place, about a foot across where the reach will be 40”. Everywhere else the reach is about 18”.

We just had a long talk about that over lunch! We looked at George cellulose is layout on video watch some other videos and commented how John Allen was really the founder of it all.

@@ToyManTelevision My first book on trains as a kid was "So you want to build a Model Railroad" that was like a 1950s reprint. My second was "Model Railroading with John Allen" wow what a contrast for a 12-13 yr old to see. I still think his was the best HO layout ever built. Its just absolutely beautiful. Imagine if he had what is available today it would just be stupendous!

One other thing I have a old book on the Old Moffat Road that climbed the continental divide before the Moffat tunnel was built. Think its called Climbing the Ladder or something. Anyway in the 1970s the tracked was like a dirt road and like the Colorado narrow gauge lines long gone there was rr infrastructure still standing. Im surprised I havent seen you make any exploring videos on the old moffat line and checked out the old left behind water towers and stuff and all the views and tunnels that rr had to offer. Some of those tunnels were really short and ran along a creek if I remember right or maybe it was Moffats competitor the colorado midland. I always liked the rocky terrain and the multiple short tunnels in gorges along rivers. Here in the East the C&O was known to have many like that till they modernized and removed some of them in the depression era improvements they made. Both were really kool to look at. To me it was always like a real life version of John Allens G&D from the photos in those books.

Ok, so here's the next level of concept: - racoon has a bit of a built-in buckety container - travels a circuit that's something of a triangle in a vertical plain: --- racoon emerges from behind scenery, "climbs" wires lines to the substation. --- Upon reaching substation, an invisible electrical contact is made, and a hidden phosphor charge in the raccoon's "bucket" fires. --- immediately the raccoon drops down into the scenery to disappear for a few minutes. --- while the raccoon is disappeared, it's getting a new phosphor charge, and making its way back to it's point of entry, where the cycle repeats. So Gardener: if you're going to propose ideas like this, you have to be ready to deal with the consequences of your actions, which includes responses like this, which __ are better suited to an outdoor layout anyway. Kindly share the video when you get this worked up!

Hi. Same scale. 1/48 scale. 1/4” = 1 foot. It’s the track gauge that is different. O standard gauge is based on 5 feet. So 1 and 1/4 inches wide. On3 is based on 3 foot mountain narrow gauge railroads. So 3:4 inch wide. And On30. 30 inch gauge so a really odd .650 inches wide. Same as HO standard gauge.
