That's a lot of work... and will be sweet when it's done... then back to the basement layout. My neighbor has a 6 1/4 inch layout that covers most of the five acre lot. He makes his own concrete ties with tie plates cast in them so all he does is weld the steel track to the plates. As I remember he is using 3/8 × 3/4 steel flat bar for track rail.
@ToyManTelevision4 жыл бұрын
Wow!!! I knew some guys using iron strap about 1/8 inch standing up and notched into wooden ties. Ultimately approved to be a disaster! Really was hard on the train wheels
@krissfemmpaws10294 жыл бұрын
@@ToyManTelevision he is running a steam driven locomotives so he is not pulling power from the track, I don't know if that matters. Now that I thought about it he could be using 3/16 or 1/4 flat bar. I know it's not 1/8 inch thick bar. He has a jig set up so he can make up to a 10 foot section of track at a time. The next time I'm over there I'll have to take a closer look. He has enough tie molds to use one bag of quick-crete and third of a bag of sand with added cement

@@ToyManTelevision I thought you were located in CA ?? Im in Indiana up on a hill in a underground house and have back up power gen set and a under ground tank of fuel The last ice storm about 3 years ago took out the local substation and neighbors seeing my comm towers lights on came visiting and can we charge our phone ? I ran a cord out side and a power strip under the front porch and every one could charge up to keep contact with the world all of my internet stations have small gensets too on propane when the UPS goes flat

With a government job, anything is possible for no one gets fired or laid off guaranteeing perpetual, elevated income above most of us serfs. Amazing work and Railroad!

Most government workers have little to no education or skills needed in the real world. Complete wastes of oxygen.

That a shame about his N scale layout did he sell the rolling stock and engines or is he going to rebuild it, he does have a one track mind or in this case a three track mind
@ToyManTelevision4 жыл бұрын
No he just kept everything! I’ll let rolling stock and all those locomotives, sitting in boxes right now

Right now his plan is to just flips off the swimming pool. But he may change that idea

How much money does he have invested so far in this project?

I don’t really know and have wondered that myself. Not a whole lot I don’t think he bought the truck used from someone who is changing their outdoor layout around. His father has a landscaping company I understand most of that work. So I don’t think very much.

I hope he lives in a good neighborhood and doesn't have mischievous kids that will try to destroy the track by the road next to the sidewalk. He is putting in a lot of hours making the track look really good in his yard.
@ToyManTelevision4 жыл бұрын
We were thinking the same thing. I don’t think there’s room there to put a fence between the tracks in the sidewalk so he must be planning to just leave it like that.

I’m fortunate enough to live in an amazing neighborhood. Sure, there are some rough kids in the mix, but I am WAY rougher, and they know it :)

I didn't understand it when I heard that Adam switched to HOn3, but with the N scale layout destruction, it makes more sense. Well, when he is more advanced with the current 3 layouts, he will surely add a new N scale layout on top of the HOn3. Meanwhile, I'm slowwwwly build my small layout!

Small is good. Often better. It just depends on what you like to do.

What about Adam getting someone local to 3D print the plastic ties instead of paying the shipping and cost for them ??
@ToyManTelevision4 жыл бұрын
There’s so massive that I don’t think that would work out. Will probably take three days just to print one. Had a dollar apiece they’re not expensive but it’s another dollar to ship them. But white van has been doing with the worlds largest backyard railroad is he simply packs up a trailer and heads out to Missouri picks up 4 or 5000 of them. Enough to last him for years and it just requires one trip out there with a trailer. Sure it’s like $4000 to buy the tires but that’s for 4000 tires so who cares?

Tim Gay hi. Yes and I’ll bet that’s how they prototyped it. Great way to make a few to test. I just found out the rocket engines in the Space X rockets are 3D printed!!!
