I think one thing that the Toyo has an advantage over the Falken is that they are lighter. In some sizes the Toyos are almost 10 pounds lighter. Lighter tire means less rotation mass; better braking, acceleration, fuel economy etc. For most folks that drive 95% highway and 5% off road they would have a better long term benefit with a light AT tire.

Great point. In a 35 or smaller c rated to c rated I don't think it's that big of a jump in weight. But your point is spot on. Rotating mass is a huge deal.

Great review, not biased. Exactly my thoughts on the Falkens, I only drive 7k miles a year or so, so they probably have half tread left but are 6 years old and hard as a rock and LOUD. I would almost rather have a tire with less tread life that I got the use out of before they got so hard and loud.
@Jason-Samko
@Jason-Samko 8 ай бұрын
Yep my good year ultra terrains did the same thing as the falkens. Once down to about half tread they got loud and hard. Thst was about 55k miles, similar to the falkens. But I did like that I could still have traction with them offroad and could worry about changing them when I wanted to without worrying about not having traction in the woods. I will go back to the falkens when these wear down. But these tires are great tires and very quiet and smooth riding for a quality all terrain.

Thanks for the in-depth review. I Just installed a set of Toyo open country at3s stock size on my Tacoma. Never had these before, but liking them so far. No road noise at all until 7o kph and some additional humming around 100kph. Performance in the rain is a million times better than the stock goodyears. Braking is excellent as well. I do expect faster treadwear due to the grippy rubber compound. Still haven't tested these on the trails yet.
@Jason-Samko

You will love them on the trail and they clear mud well too. I love everything about them except tread wear. But they come with a great warranty so I'd expect to get atleast 50 out of them. I'm hoping the Inital tread wear slows down.

Just ordered a set of these in 35x12.5x17's (actually 34.4) for my 23 JT - HA. First time Toyo customer. Always went w/cheaper tires on previous trucks. I live in Ohio and work from home so they should last awhile, hopefully. Chose these bcuz of their reputation and warranty and compared to other tires in this size range, the price for reputable brands was also great. I think if the side biters would have been more aggressive, they'd be an MT vs the AT they are. Glad to hear they are quiet too. That was also a factor. There's enuf noise in these Jeeps already without droning tire hum.

I bet you are gonna love them. My only worry as a 40k mile a year driver is tire wear. But we will see gow they hold up. They have a fantastic warranty as well. But overall a great tire

I’m running Toyo open country at3 On my 2015 lifted Scion xB. With 65,000M P-metric. I never go offroad before, just making my lifted xB more useful. Such as for rain and snow. I do honestly agree that these tires are very amazing to have for our daily use. They handle so much better, it gives me better confidence. Just couple things I wish they could improve a bit more. The same as u said, make the grooves a bit deeper, and the side wall a bit more aggressive. To me, they should redesign and call it Toyo - open country at4, that would be a game changer and worth better buying. I do also agree that they do look like they already almost half way of the tread life. Had these for about almost 3 years now. I have no issues in them whatsoever. For my application, they are perfectly fine. Just couple things that should improve a bit better. But no complaints. Would I get the same tires, most likely yes.

@Jason-Samko
@Jason-Samko 9 ай бұрын
I think ats are supposed to be best in the snow and will hold up well on the gravel as they are a harder duramiter lug than most mts are. I bet you would be happy with an at. But make sure it's 3 peak mtn rated for the snow.

@@Jason-Samko I've had issues with all season or more mild ATs getting chewed up on the gravel. The more cracks, crevices, and siping, the faster they go. The MTs sucked in the snow, but being large one piece lugs they held up really well for me. The current Coopers I have seem to be a good in between. Tons of people around here have the Falken ATs so I'm sure they'd do well too

Nice overview buddy! I am torn right now on the falcon WP AT4 vs the toyo AT3s myself. Both would be in an LT tire, but the fact the WPs are 7 lbs heaving with only a C rating vs the Toyos in an E rating has me questioning MPG and road noise on the Falkens. I think the sidewall lugs on the WPs are adding that weight. I am a CO rock trail rider vs more mud and sand where you are... so not too worried there. Given it will be on a daily driver i think the Toyos win given i have a snow variable too, but a tough one!
@Jason-Samko
@Jason-Samko 3 ай бұрын
@rickwhitfield7617 that is a tough call. But I bet the toyos would be quieter and less mpg hit and more sticky off road with the softer durameter. And they are doing decent tread wear wise. Won't get the miles out of them like the falkens. But you will make up the cost savings with mpgs.

Just to point this out here: measure from the inside/middle, not the outside, if you're wanting to maintain your 'tread depth'. Gladiators front tires are kind of pigeon toed... aka, the outside is going to wear SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the inside. I have 64k on my factory tires, and am about to replace them with these Toyo's or maybe those Falken's. I'ma be raising hell at the dealer as well when i get things swapped over, because they were supposed to be rotating my tires whenever i bring it in, and it is EXTREMELY obvious that they have not been... my front tires are completely bald on the outside... yet the inside look almost untouched... unless my gladiator was faulty from the factory, i'd be expecting all of them to be like this... For reference, its completely stock. no lift, no nothing. only mods are some ditch lights, and a GSMR radio... I only got 2 years out of my stocks... so i'm GREATLY hoping that i can get more than that with some actual good branded tires this time around.... I drive over 100 miles a day for work... so if these can't last longer than cheap ass factory tires, then i'll be rather upset too...
