All vehicles are too expensive ! I bought a midsize truck because it was the size I wanted and it suits my needs perfectly . It’s not as expensive as a full size . I'm a proponent of this logic. The compacts of today are the size of midsize cars of the past. The mid size truck today is almost as big as the full size trucks of the past. When you keep in mind old cars you've lived with in the past and look at it from that perspective then you can see it as more of a lateral move than a downgrade.

Drove a Ram 1500 with a Hemi for several years, traded it on my Gladiator which fits my lifestyle perfectly. The Gladiator drives just as nice, is more capable in Ohio snow, occasional off road, and gets 2-3 more MPG’s. The 3.6 runs great with plenty of power. Do miss the sweet sound of the Hemi, but for myself who just tows/ hauls occasionally it’s the perfect truck.

I traded a F150 for a GMC Canyon AT4 and one of the reasons was I didn't need a full size truck anymore. The only one using the back seat is my pitbull and the truck dose everything I need a truck to do, it's easy to park and fits in my garage. I also like the fact you can get all the luxury of a full size truck in a midsize truck now. The funny thing is midsize trucks are approaching the size of full size trucks from the 80's. I don't think midsize trucks are a rip off. They offer at least 80% of the capability of a full size in regards to towing and cargo capacity. They offer better MPGs too and are often more maneuverable in tighter spaces. Full sizes have their place, especially for those who need the capability. They can be more comfortable on long drives too and they offer V8s. But the good thing about it is, we can choose what we want. I'll never rag on someone for owning a full size because that's what they want...just as I want a midsize. They are perfect for me.

Question you have to ask: Is the truck too expensive or is your wage too low? It will match up once / if wages go up. However, you have a stalemate where customers want to pay pre-pandemic prices for product that manufacturing costs went up 30% or more and interest rates push that up more. Customers slow their purchasing and company produces less units to match demand and layoff workers. Less units means less manufacturing buying power and less negotiating room. Its a cause / effect situation and I don't expect dramatic changes in vehicle pricing. You have to accept your dollar does not stetch as far and so you have to instead focus on wage.

Good video! Lately I’ve been contemplating if I made a mistake buying a Tacoma vs a Tundra. And honestly, after I do the pros and cons the only con that really bothers me is the backroom seats for my family Which I can somewhat live with since we have a Camry. It’s still get annoying though when we have to take the Tacoma on a long road trip with the entire family. But we all knew of this trade off when we bought it. I also just don’t have the space for a full size truck. Doesn’t fit my garage. Doesn’t even fully fit my 10ftx20 ft car port. Maneuverability is nicer on the midsize truck . The other problem like you mention is pricing. The SR5 Tundra was 16k more than the SR5 Tacoma. When you add the higher insurance cost as well I think midsize was the way to go. I just do light hauling for my construction job anyhow. No towing. The Maverick was nice value proposition. But that truck has gone up by 7k if I’m not mistaken. It would be nicer to have options in that small truck segment as well with current prices.

When my kids were young, I was involved in their school activities and sport. I had and still own a full-size truck. It was perfect. I used it for everything, eg, traveling, off-road, and long trips. The full-size truck was awesome. Now that my kids are grown up, I no longer need a full-size truck. So, I am downsizing to a midsized truck. It's only my wife and I. In my opinion, depending on the trims, I believe the midsized trucks' prices are reasonable. It all depends on your needs. In my opinion, the less your needs, the lower the trim and the lower the price. The higher your needs, the higher the trim and the higher the price. It goes the same for a full-size truck, but it's a bit pricey than the midsized truck. I believe the price for the midsized truck is reasonable. Granted, you need to take into consideration the brand. For example, if a Tacoma equivalent to the Frontier Pro4x is more pricey, you have a choice: Tacoma that is equivalent to your needs as the Frontier and the Tacoma is more expensive than the Frontier, I will consider the Frontier. The resale value of the Tacoma might be greater than the Frontier, but the Frontier will still have a reasonable resale. I would choose the Frontier. My opinion.

If all you need is an off roader and something that can tow lighter trailers, then you can probably get by with a mid sized truck. If you want to be able to do all the previous states things, but need extra room to haul your family than a full sized truck is right for you. If you are like me, and need a family hauler, an off roader, a wood hauler, and need to be able to haul heavy trailers, then maybe an HD is better for you. People seem to use their midsize trucks more for truck purposes then those that have full-size trucks (except for those that have a business). There are a lot of midsize trucks up here outfitted with caps, racks, rooftop tents and seem to always be hauling something. The only thing full-size trucks are loaded up with… are people! I’ve always thought that if your priority is hauling people more so than gear or anything else… then maybe you don’t need a truck! Just get an SUV. I also don’t know the last time I saw an 8’ bed on a truck. And honestly, 6’ beds are almost becoming rare as well. Most people that opt for a full-size truck, get the crew cab with a 5.5’ bed!! I feel there is not enough price difference to justify a midsize truck unless smaller size is the main concern. Full size trucks have more room, capability, better engines, and have the ability to opt for diesel engines which get better fuel economy than midsize trucks. Also, there is no real difference in MPG between the trucks. Having been in both midsize trucks to HD trucks, fullsize trucks are a no brainer. If the 10k difference in price is too much more to pay for a full size truck, you problably really couldnt afford the midsize truck in the first place.

And this whole “holding value” nonsense is nonsense anyway. Unless you’re hopping from truck to truck every two to three years, you really should be doing what we’ve all been doing forever - buying something you need until it outlives its usefulness or until it does, THEN buy another vehicle. Looking at depreciating assets and saying “oh, that’s not going to hold value” is not the way one should approach buying a freaking vehicle of all things.

This guy must be getting paid by the big three .!! Not everyone thinks the best of these trucks bro, this either has a hard on for these trucks or he’s definitely getting money for his endorsements .!!

I drove a full size for decades. I had a midsize 30+ years ago and also several years ago. Went back to full size after that one a few years ago. I would never go back. They are all a ripoff. Stop pretending they aren't.

Jason, where were you a few years ago when I was in car lot business. Nobody can sell a bunch of overpriced pile of metal for greedy dealers, like you can.

... 90% of people who buy trucks don't even use it for "truck" things - ego driven economy ...

All new trucks re EQUALLY overpriced, it truly is ridiculous. But if you want one, pick one that you like or can afford. And long beds (8ft) on mid-sized trucks are just plain dumb. If you want an 8ft bed, buy a full size truck

An 8 foot bed a midsize sure would look funny too

maybe, i like my 24 frontier. i realize i could have gotten a similar trim titan for maybe 6-7k more, or even a slightly lower trim f150 5.0 v8 for 10k more... but then i have to deal with cylinder deactivation and the inevitable long term repairs that come with it. v8 noises almost make it worth it though

Sad that midsize trucks don’t get better gas mileage. My V8 F150 gets better fuel economy than my brother in laws Tacoma turbo 4 banger.

Nothing is a great buy right now. Let those overpriced 4 bangers rot. I bought a Nissan frontier pro4x 3.8 V-6 for 31 k in 2020 and four years later magically they're priced at 50 k. A 4x4 midsize truck with leather should be 33- 38 k max. A full size v-8 of the same should be 40-45k max.

Those are city guy trucks. Or man bun transporters. No real men buy them.

Sounds like somebody can't afford a full size truck
