Hey Matt, do you need to take the oil pan off so you don’t scrape off the sealant when refitting the timing cover?

Great Videos! I have run into one problem where the oring on the bottom of the timing cover keeps coming out of its seat. Installed the cover twice so far. Going back in for a 3rd time. 😯. Any suggestions how to keep it in the seat as I slide the cover on over the front edge of the oil pan?

Put a small amount of FIPG into the groove so it holds the ring when you install.

Is it possible to remove the timing cover without removing the tensioner? 1 of my Ac compressor bolts broke but in the back end of the bolt so my bolt spins freely it is holding tension on the compressor so I’m kind of screwed unless I can leave the tensioner on

ouch man......can you email me more about this and send some pictures. sounds like we may need to think outside the box on this one.

Matt Shaughnessy all good man I ended up shaking prying twisting the compressor carefully that finally the bolt snapped in 2 and I got it off. Unorthodox but I had no options left.. it came out tho hopefully no damage to the lines or compressor

Hey Matt, I am replacing my timing cover due to a leaking issue around the power steering pump area.after having to replace the water pump , in which I decides to go deeper and repair the timing cover leak. After pulling it apart noticed a defective in the timing cover just above the power steering pump location. So I bought a new cover and at the bottom I noticed my oil pump O ring was crystallized so I got a new one as well. The issue I see is while putting the cover back on the new O ring is going to be ruined while trying to seat the cover. Any thoughts to safely attach the cover without ruining the O-ring?

I have this problem. Timing cover is leaking oil. Do I really need to fix it? Why not leave it be and let it look ugly?

Hi, I’m about to do that job on my 03 4Runner, thanks for all the info. I was wondering, it’s absolutely necessary to set TDC ? Or I can take the timming cover off without doing that ? I Just want to reseal I’m not going to do anything on the timming. Thanks, I hope you can help me with this question.

Aloha Matt, my crankshaft keyway broke (long story). I have learned the keyway (woodruff key) can be replaced. Does the timing cover need to come off to replace the keyway? Mahalo!

@florencristobal74816 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew. What kinda of gasket did you use?
@streamerguy19705 жыл бұрын
Floren Cristobal the 4.0 timing cover doesn’t use a gasket. You need to use rvt.

What leaks if the timing cover gasket is bad, oil or coolant, or both? Mine is leaking coolant, thinking mine is a bad water pump?
@streamerguy19705 жыл бұрын
Hunter Atwood the timing cover doesn’t have a gasket. The factory literally puts the motor together with just a few squirts of rvt in a few places and that’s it.
