There is a lot to say about this "restoration" , in my opinion is not a professional job ,BUT we need to consider the fact that they live in India, and maybe is very dificult and expensive to find a milling machine to resurface the cilinder head. I think they did their best with the resources they have. Keep going!!! Best wishes in you restoration!!

Machine shops are easily accessible in India in semi-urban or urban areas. It's a fact that many mechanics in India don't use a torque wrench because of lack of awareness, but the fact is this is shoddy work even by Indian standards. Painting of flywheel and clutch assembly, mixing up the pushrods, no checking and/or adjustment of valve clearances are certain things that a mechanic won't do even in India.

I see a lot of criticism and scoffing...however...what do you think is powering these third world countries? He uses torque...like "not too tight," "tight," and "tighter than tight." I think we'd all be surprised to see how well that engine runs and how long it lasts. It sure didn't look like his first time. Sure he didn't hone the cylinders, and didn't use a torque wrench on anything...didn't have a fancy Mac or Snap on tool box with 300 pounds of tools in it...and he reused a lot of old parts...and my guess that's what you do in a third world country...either that or do without. Make it work. But, he did have a novel way to grind the valve seats and valves using his fire starter survival tool. All in all...way cool. BTW...anyone want to guess how many times that engine has been rebuilt? For sure it wasn't one of Toyota's more recent models. LOL....killing me.

I took a photo and immediately rang the local council ranger who got there in time to catch them. Apparently the ranger had been trying to find out who was putting oil into the storm water for months. Not sure what fine they got...but I hope it was thousands of $s.

He didn't check the bearing clearance, the ring gap, didn't properly torque the rods/mains/heads, etc. He did so much wrong, lucky that engine will last out a damn week. I don't care where he is from. Someone else stated in the comment he's from the Philippines and even they have Torque Wrenches in what equates to a 3rd world country! I been there, my fiance is in the Philippines. I was a Master Technician, had all 8 ASE Master Certificates and worked for GM. You watch any REAL mechanic worth his rate on KZbin and you will see them measure everything. Even then, the engine may fail on the Dyno! I just saw one fail on a Power Nation engine build and they know what they are doing. Don't make excuses! This is wasted money. That engine WILL fail.

@@tinkmarshino i have rebuild few engines so it is not even close to unimaginable. . When u doing an engine do it right the first time . If u skip on steps & not measure things like properly gaping the rings then it will come back & bite u in the ass too soon! I have rebuild a 1.5l Peugeot diesel from 2001 that now has over 150k km since i rebuild it at 230k in 2014. And still going good with just about 382k , has turbo seal leak but it's going to scrap in few months so i don't care about it anyways. While i may not be the top of the line expert in engines i still can say whatever this guy doing is okay only if he uses this in his own car. @@dzsam6026 Not really. China is one of the heavy polluters as well as shit hole countries like this but yet the rest of the world wants the U.S. to throw our taxpayer dollars into the Paris climate accords yet other countries take the money and do nothing to clean anything up. Thanks to Mr. Trump we pulled out of that lop sided shit.

Two years of auto mechanic shop in high school and I remember using clearance grease threads on the crank shaft retention bearings. Torqued them down, measured how far the grease spread and then sanded down the bearings to bring it into tolerance.... "Hey boss man, the engine seized after two minutes and won't crank over. It just clicks..... Ha ha ha

Wow Outstanding work would be interesting to know how long the engine will last before it needs another rebuild as i see that the a lot of the major bolts where not torqued down.

All these "mechanics" in the comments really don't know what "working with what you have" means. He probably doesn't have fancy equipment, but I bet he has built and rebuilt more engines than you have with your little tools you can go buy at your local home depot. Not everybody in the world has the resources to buy equipment, however we still need some way to maintain our vehicles. Although I'll admit the torque pattern is a big deal, it doesn't make you look smarter by pointing it out and making fun of it. Also, you'd be surprised how men like these with decades of experience can precisely torque things to spec; I've seen it with my eyes and proved with a torque wrench and my own hands.

This is how an ordinary day in a workshop in Sri Lanka. We dont need fancy equipment to rebuild stuff in here. And at the end of the day nobody cares about how much worth tools you have used to get done the job.

People are surprised he didn't use a torque wrench. He's stripping the engine in the dirt and throwing all the parts into a pile. As for engine assembly he just threw the parts back together. I wouldn't be surprised if he spins a bearing from lack of oil from a clogged oil passage. But hey it's shiny 🤤

Mechanics with loads Of experience don't need a torque wrench they know the proper torque from feeling !!! This is how the old school mechanics did it . Know a days mechanics use a torque wrench to tighten a head light screw. Great job!!

Be nice to have just a bit of narration, explaining what's happening. The K motors were terrific, and I remember my partner buying a Starlet with multi-point injection. It was hit hard on the l/h side, but it was worth repairing, and it was surprisingly grunty. Even better the her earlier "Twin Squish" carburetor powered Starlet, and that was fairly quick for a 1300cc oushrod engine, even in stock condition.
