Thanks for the tutorial...I did mine today after watching...saved over $800 at the local garage. Another good way to get the 'cones' out is to tap a small screwdriver into the slot. Rotate them til the slot faces out, then light tap into the slot so it doesn't reach the thread on studs and damage them. They slip straight off...greetings from SW Australia...

Great video! For pulling the cone washers at 9:30 I use a brass hammer to tap the studs- the brass is soft enough not to damage the threads/studs but hard enough to free them up. Works like a charm if they're really stuck on there.

Great video, very informative step by step. But the lack of grease in the original birf is most likely why it failed in the first place, you said you were in there once before.. then seeing the lack of grease put in the new one I assume you will back in there again soon.. P.s. use molly grease.

Toyota specifies MoS2 Moly grease in the CV joint and interior of housing and Wheel bearing grease for the hub and wheel bearing. Wondered why you used wheel bearing grease in both?

You mentioned while dismantling the cv-joint ( birfield joint) from the axle shaft that you had to remove the inner c-clip you didn't show how you removed the c-clip. I have done 50-60 of these over the years and I be very curious to know how you got access to the c-clip and remove it prior to removing the the axle shaft. Good video though.

add grease to the center of birf then insert axle and it will hydraulically press the grease through the bearings.

Use a Brass bar (punch) and a hammer to remove the cone washers, the brass is softer and won't damage the studs, but vibration from the makes the cone washers fall off. This is actually what the service manual says.

Agree, not too bad really, I've done a few. Would highly recommend to all to spend the $30 on the bearing nuts socket and torque them properly...guessing on a wheel bearing isn't my cup of tea, but to each their own.

@harveysmith1006 жыл бұрын
Can you give more information. What do you mean? The whole back axle falls off?
@rogerhockemier99046 жыл бұрын
Nice job dude but not repacking your wheel bearing? Wow do you realize how many thousands of miles that grease has on it? You have dirt and metallics contamination water rust to get between the bearings and races . The grease loses its viscosity and breaks down over the years and the lubrication ability diminishes. Its not if but when those bearings smoke and lock up and take everything out . What if you leave your Dad stranded or worse yet the hub comes apart and the wheel comes off and your Dad gets into a bad accident and gets killed. You did a wonderful job until you lazed out on repacking the bearings that is when you clean and inspect. And most of all PROTECT!
