Saw this video last week and what i learned from here saved me yesterday. Replacing the axle on my Audi i removed a ziptie holding on the inner joint too early and the balls started falling out when positioning the axle. Cleaned and greased the balls and put them back in saving me a headache.

Throw away society all in the name of greed (but disguised as efficiency and warranty security). Manufacturers = Financially Wins as it gets to sell you more than you need (whole assemblies) increasing profits Mechanics = Financially Wins by having a higher Profit margin on top of more expensive whole assemblies. Wins again as the fix is faster (ensures profit consistency per job). Customer = Financially Loses due to paying a lot more for buying whole assemblies. Environment = Loses due to more pollution manufacturing and more pollution as land fill

Today's society is too quick to throw away and buy, instead of fixing.
@danielschubert4958 Жыл бұрын
As a mechanic while I agree rebuilding is a good thing to know how to do, in certain situations like cvs it’s usually actually cheaper for the customer to replace the unit rather than getting it rebuilt so to the extra cost of labour spent rebuilding. If doing it yourself then definitely rebuilding is much cheaper

Thanks for the video definitely helped me but one question I have is would a brass punch and hammer be a better choice? Watching you installing it by hammering on the ball with a steel punch, did it not leave a flat spot?
@lowrangeoffroad17 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. These parts are super hard. We took this joint apart several times with these tools and there was not sign of any damage at all. We have tried brass and found that brass flakes and chips off leaving little pieces of brass inside the joint and they are almost impossible to clean out. So we recommend using steel tools. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Sir, my car CV axle has a play and make sounds on both sides of the front car. I hold the CV axle firmly, pushing in and out. During this time, the axle makes a play movement about 1 cm with a bit of click sounds. There are no leaks or signs of worn in the bushings or rubber parts. Is this normal? And any danger in driving with this axle play? Would be please to hear a good solution Thanks

I Think you are a supper star. Can I ask a quick question . I bought a new CV join all shape and size are identical same amount of inner teeth but the teeth/grove slightly different shape the new one it had a v shape grove instead of a U shape grove and it seen 2mm smaller to fit to the main shaft. will it be ok to remove the old internal into the new one with the new bearing. The old CV join make click when turning corner as the rubber cover was damage with unknown time. any help thanks in advance.

Hi guys. Great video. However, what I don't understand is that when pulling apart a good working VB join / Birfield, the whole thing moves around nicely, but during re-assemby the Birfield seems to be very tight. How do we get this re-assemblrf Birfield to become as loose as the original?

My question is, if a cv joint is mishandled and comes apart inside the boot, can it be reassembled whether the boot is left on or not? Or was that something that would damage components and need them replaced?
@najawassolls2435 жыл бұрын
Where do i get balls and housings? Here in germany it isn't common to repair like that although it is a great thing. I think that probably the work time is to expensive. If you search here at the auto part dealer you can only buy the whole axle. In some cases you can get the joints solo. But i don't know where to find balls, cages or other parts solo.

Thanks for that... Few days ago I pulled apart my whole driveshaft from a '99 Toyota, and couldn't assemble back an outer CV joint, because in the inner CV joint I had to insert these balls from inside and I thought that it is the same on the outer CV joint, lol. Thanks again!

are these repaired axles are reliable...
@lowrangeoffroad17 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as the joint (balls, cage, race and housing) do not show wear. One of the main indications that a CV joint is worn out is that it will make a clicking sound while accelerating in a turn. If this is observed the joint is worn out and should be replaced. If there is no noise in turns and the only thing that is bad is a torn boot, the joint definitely can be disassembled, cleaned, reassembled and re-lubed. It does take more time, but depending on the cost of a new drive axle (or joint), it can be worth the effort. Thanks for watching and commenting.

This means the constant velocity (CV) joint is bad. You could either replace the CV joint or replace the entire shaft. In either case you usually have to remove the entire shaft. You should price both. Sometimes the shaft is about the same price as the joint, in which case I'd go with the shaft. We have not made a video to show how to remove the replace the shaft, but I suspect someone has. Simply do a search on KZbin and you will probably get a good one. If that does not work, you might check on websites like Auto Zone or Oreiley's for some good instructions. Good luck with it and thanks for watching and commenting.
