Toyota Camry brake lamp failure sensor fix

None of my lights or bulbs went out in the back rear, although as soon as I start my car and tap the break, the rear light on the dash pops up. Any thoughts?

@TriStateMusik check to make sure that your vrake light are "all" working. If even one isn't that brake light warning light will pop on

Everything you explained happened to me. The previous owner did have an accident and the left rear got touched. The indicator still works but dashboard shows everytime this warning when i press the brake. I still have the original socket. I will fix it. I think it might be the brake lights or the sensor.

You're very smart. I have a 96 camry. I love it. It will survive the apocalypse, it's these little things that's suck on it but it's so easy to replace almost everything on it and youtube saves me so much money.

so, on a 2001 Lexus RX300, On Toyota with Lexus being the expensive models, I have replaced the Bulbs, checked the fuses, replaced the fuses just to be safe, and the brake lights still don't work, I have Voltage to the Light failure sensor but no light on the dash and no brake lights still, and Im not paying 551 bucks for a light failure sensor, as most vehicles don't have nor need a Failure sensor would it be best to bypass this sensor as it is prone to failure as I have read on most toyota and Lexus forums

You can bypass the sensor. I did that to my old Honda. Check to see if your brake pedal switch is broken. That can be the issue as well. Make sure there's power going thru when you press the brake pedal. It's like a momentary push button switch just above the brake pedal

Check your brake switch that the it's not stuck. It's behind the brake pedal

Ok, so you had damage on the rear light that promoted the sensor to light up. But what if you know all your lights are functioning but the sensor light still lights up. How do you correct that?

There's a small moduel box usually (yellow) behind the carpet of the driverside trunk area. That may have malfunctioned. Start there. Hopefully that works. Cheers

My 97 avalon v6 car has zero brake lights running nor pressed brske pedal .... j checked for power at the brake light switch .... its tgere & indicates the pedal being depressed ..... could this unit be my problem ?

Thank you for your help. I did replace the driver tail light and had the failure for months, after installing a new aftermarket light. The yellow light in the dash was permanently on. Last Wednesday I went to a junk yard store and I did purchase a used tail light hardness from an old Camry. It didn't work. I did plugged and unplugged many times. Nothing. The yellow light still there, permanent. Tonight, I did watch your video again. I went to my car at 11pm. I did turn the lights on more than once. Then, I did turn the lights off, with the car on. Then I did turn the car on, WITH THE LIGHTS OFF, VOILA, THE YELLOW LIGHT TURNS OFF. Then, I did turn the lights on and the yellow light keep off. Then I did press the brake, the yellow light came on, when I did released the break, the yellow light went off. The failure was corrected. Still it fails sometimes when I press the brake, but it is not permanent. Thank you for your great help. Mech. Engineer.

No, that's the brake light switch or the the brake light switch "Button" on the pedal.

96 camery right break light out but back up lights work (same bulb I believe) Replaced the bulb it was good but changed any way. Indicator light in dash off, then on when pressing brake pedal. If I'm understanding correctly it's most likely a wire or connection problem not the yellow box or relay... Going to take a look at wiring especially around trunk hinge and connector to light socket

It was the ground wire, it popped out and I simply put it between bulb and casing, will replace socket. Thankfully a simple fix. Thanks for helping

will that little sensor light come on for a head light out? or a turn signal out?

shane michaels only on rear lights. Headlights you can tell. Signal lights will cause speed blinker on dash. Hope that helps. Cheers.

I have a 1996 Toyota Camry and the Brake light indicator is always on. I got the original bulbs and sockets from the Dealer but it remains on. Without even stepping on the brake. Is there a way to turn that Light off? It's bugging me.

Check to see if the trunk lever cut some wires out because the module is behind that area on the driver side. Otherwise, there's no other way unless you remove the bulb from the dash. Hope that helps. Cheers.

i think that it does notice a difference in resistance because ever since i put l.e.d. lights for my break lights my indicator light has been on from start up without touching yhe break pedal.

Aaron Randolph make sure that the parking lamp is making contact with the base. the module doesn't realize any resistance unless there's no contact. I have all led bulbs now and they're fine. the newer camry models will have the need to use Non error led bulbs though. but these older models don't. hope that helps.

Change the corner break lamp because one strong light and then other a little bit Make it same energy And the break light on dash gauge will off

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry. Both my tail and rear lights are on. They work perfectly. However when I press on the brakes, the warning lamp appears. When I take my foot off the brakes, it goes away. Goes away, comes back, goes away, comes back and so forth.

Thank you for the video. However, I’d like to let everyone know that when I went to diagnose my solid orange brake lamp failure light on my 2000 Camry, it turned off by just lightly shaking the wires back and forth in and around my brake/tail light. It’s not a fix, as I may have a bad wire, but it got rid of the annoying light. I’ll let you know if it comes back.

Mines been really, really strange. 97, that light would come on , I would flick my lights on and back off bam gone. (Also when it would come on; no bulb would be off etc. I would pull over and check sometimes before flicking the lights always at random too...) Now I’m figuring out now I am going to have to go look at grounds and all because my back lights won’t turn off at all. The brake lights are good to go they come on with the pedal as expected. My back lights themselves with the switch somewhere is no bueno
