To those who else may have this issue, i replaced the battery but it wouldn't stay held by the bracket. If you look closely a small piece of plastic is holding the battery down and they snap all the time. I was able to use gorilla tape to carefully cover the whole battery and hug the corners and hold it in. I then reassembled it without an issue ever since! Best of luck.

The brackets that hold it down are probably broken just happened to mine

Mine won’t click and stay back in… all 4 corner edges are intact.. had to put cover on to push it down then use invisible 3M tape to hold cover. Not very elegant

The way I did it was push battery into the side without the brackets, then it'll be snug enough for the side with brackets to go over it Pretty straightforward unless you deformed it.

It needs reseting for some cases. Just replacing the battery does not guarantee it will function.

It's weird. I think either one works. I put CR2032 in my key but my brother put CR2016 in his. We both have 2017 Toyota Camry. Can anyone have the deeper answer why two different types of battery for the same car year/model?

I have a 2012 Rav4, same key fob. For this battery type (CR2016) were 20 is the diameter (20mm) and 16 is the coin thickness (1.6mm). Therefore CR2032 is the same diameter but 3.2mm thick. I couldn't find a CR2016 and tried a CR2024 instead (2.4mm thick). However the retainer tabs that hold the battery down are for the 1.6mm battery, so I can't get the enclosure back together without the battery popping out. I'll have to order a CR2016 battery even though the 2024 and 2032 batteries work. I just can't get it put back together with the thicker battery type in this housing.
