Hard to believe that a Toyota 86 costs less today than a Celica did over 20 years ago.

In 1987, a Celica ST cost $26,360 (plus optional air conditioning). Today, you can buy a Toyota 86 for $29,990, including air conditioning. A 14% price increase in 26 years is not too bad.

the model above was about 30k with an automatic and air.I REMEMBER MY FATHER LOOKING AT ONE OF THESE for my brother as his first car new on p plates in 1992 but he stupidly wanted a nissan pulsar 2.0l sss or q instead.shame really as the old man wanted something both can enjoy driving.

Actually, the Toyota Celica ST, from 1991, was sold for around 12 000 dollars. That costs as much as a small, cheap hatchback here in the U.S.

Well, I didn't actually put it in the title or description, and the voiceover guy's Italian accent is a bit of a throw off, however, the ad has a few giveaways that it's not American: 1) steering wheel is on the *RIGHT* 2) the cop has an Australian accent and 3) at the end, you see an Australian flag and the wording "Proud sponsor of the 1992 Australian olympic team". :P

Yes, and you do realise that this is an Australian ad?

The 86GT does not have driver aids, but I think the Celica did (the ST didn't though. I know because I own one). That might've increased the price for the Celica. But I saw another commercial (called: 1991 Toyota Celica Commercial ) that says it costs $12 698.
