From what i remember, two of the main problems with hydrogen was Production (using electric to generate it introduces an additional step down in efficiency) and Volume vs unit of energy (i.e. carrying enough in the car to get good range) Production is always going to be less efficient than running a car off electricity. However there are many benefits to hydrogen over electricity that can make efficiency issues acceptable. Volume.... There was talk 10 years ago of solid state storage, I'm guessing due to the silence on the topic that there were issues with this concept. Good luck though! Hydrogen can be much more portable that electric. And it's not like batteries don't have serious capacity issues and re-charge times.
