Australian here, driven a similar model Corolla for ~6 years. The Corolla is the highest selling model of any car in history. It is built for efficiency in every metric. Everything works and it never fails. For this, I love it to bits. Incredibly reliable, practical (I can fit a 6'1 surfboard in the back, easily) fuel efficient and the cost to maintain these things is an absolute joke. I'm talking less than US$70 for a service. It seems like some of Japan's smartest automotive engineers must have been working on this model, considering how much the model is worth to Toyota's business and also, how good the car is for its purpose. Toyota commissioned Yamaha to design the engine, like they did with the Lexus LFA's V10. I used to work with a former racing car driver and motorbike rider. He raved about the quality of this car when he had to drive one as a his company car. When I eventually drove one myself, I realised what he was talking about. Mechanics and girlfriends of mine have offered to buy it off me. The Corolla AE86 is also a legend of 1980s motorsports. It's not all things to all people, but what it does well, it really is amazing at. I suggest watching the Top Gear review of the earlier Corolla model. Very interesting.

Greetings from Hungary! First of all, sorry if i make some english grammary mistake. I own a pre-facelift version of this car too. It's okay this one has just over 200K km on the clock, but mine have traveled 240K km, but even more interesting, we have a Corolla Club here, and one of the mates got an N/A pre-facelift one and it's got more than 350K km on the clock and he never had to tear down the engine or change anything so he maintaines his car like a true owner. For my car all is needed to be done is swap the engine timing chain, gears, etc because previous owner doesn't knew how to treat an engine like this... It's almost completely stock and yes, the engine is works as is should because it makes me sheeet my pants sometimes by the wiggly-giggly suspension, even though it's got billstein coilovers with 20mm lovering and it's stiffer than the factory one, but here we can't do much about it because our roads are... yeah, could be better. Anyway, the PFL T-sport is a realy great car from several perspectives, it looks like a grandma or grandpa car that is mostly used to go to shopping, but it can cause some surprise for most of the drivers who think they got the fastest car on the whole planet. And the fuel economy is good too, if you just chillin with the road it doesn't drink more than 6,5L/100KM (for me), but if you push it, then get your credit card ready to refill it because it can drain then fueltank like crazy. (I did an exactly 100km trip from Szeged to Baja [if anyone wants to check it] and i pushed it after an Audi A4 and yeeah, the car not just drink the whole tank, but my pants too....). Anyway, Thanks for this review, I love these videos and the personal impressoins the cars do to you and to listen to your opinions on specific cars! Hope realy you enjoyed the "little japan rice rocket"!

This was awesome content mate, really good to see something different on the channel. Yes of course we all drool and get insanely jealous of all the German High HP Rocket ships you seem to get on a daily basis but it was getting a bit predictable and formulaic. They all have huge power huge torque have huge top speeds and cost HUGE MONEY that most of us will never have and can only DREAM OF. Honestly speaking, was so refreshing seeing you drive a 20 year old Corolla but most of all witnessing the genuine enjoyment and fun you had while ringing its neck. Sometimes we forget where it all began for most of us, simple cars we could actually afford to buy and work on ourselves, never failing to bring a smile to the driver with a range of addictive sensations we could never tire of. They might have been cheap n simple machines by today's standards, they still brought sheer driving pleasure we remember so fondly

Here in Australia it's called Corolla Sportivo. I've seen a few around, but most i've seen are not taken care of as much as I'd like. However, the 5 that are currently listed for sale do look really clean. Didn't know about the supercharged version though. Also there's a 3.5Lsupercharged version of the Camry. Slightly more upmarket Camry to be specific, so it was called the Aurion (TRD, for the supercharged model). They even did a 4.0L Hilux TRD (also supercharged). Edit: Just found a '92 Corolla FX GT for sale. 118kW from 1.6L, and it doesn't even have VVTL-i, but it does have 20 valves. Only 1080kg, so about 110kW/tonne. Pretty amazing. It's like the old hot hatch no one knows about, maybe if only they did more work with the rest of the car to match its engine.

I had one back in 2004 on an 02 plate. Was really a good car, and faster than the numbers suggested. Mine was the 3 door so looked a bit better proportioned. Brakes were wooly and suspension like angel delight but a decent car and great lift sound track.

Got the 99 celica version with the TRD body kit and muffler delete with the 2zzge. my obtainable dream car. Its amazing. a little downside on these cars those is the 6 speed they pair with it is quite weak and the clutch is the same as the 1zzfe so usually after about 230km it needs a clutch replacement and sometimes a snycro replacement around 250km depending on the driving. Iv been a big honda fan for a few years and im in new zealand and as far as im aware both in nz/aus/US the 2zzge is quite underated its pretty much a weaker but same power as a b18c but for legit half as much if not less.

You actually are not driving the car the way its designed. You are meant to shift in the high rev range btwn 7000 and 8000
