10/05/2022 THANK YOU! We ran into this problem out of the blue we my wife & I went out to lunch. The car was ‘stuck’ in Drive. In a parking space that you had to back up out of. While eating lunch I found your video. Within 5 minutes we were operational again and headed to Lowes. $1.52 for a two-pack of the e-clip. Another 5 minutes and we were completely repaired. We are retired seniors. Our Toyota has 408,000 miles on it. We were afraid it was the END for our car (expecting $$$ transmission repairs. )

We spent $1.11 on the part at Home Depot. When we took the car apart to fix it with the e-clip, we found $3.47 in coins that belonged to the Corolla's previous owner that had somehow fallen down under the gear shift through the back of the little pull out shelves. Therefore, we actually made money on this repair thanks to you. More than double the thanks!

After racking my brain to figure out what a really happened to my daughters Toyota Carolla? After battery checks I almost took of the starter off the the Carolla before checking the shifter cable connection.. This video saved me lots of time and money. Great Video!! I Had The Same Problem With Mine, The Shifter Cable Slided Off Because The Bushing Deteriorated it's Only Rubber And Came Off. I Bought A New Bushing Fixed it And it Works Good for Now.

my car did something similar today. i was driving and started hearing some thumping noises and then my acceleration gave out. I pulled over and tried to put the gear in park and when I got the shifter up to "P", it wouldn't lock into place. I tried to put back down to drive, but it wouldn't go any further than "R" and also wouldn't lock into "P". Once I turned off my car, I couldn't turn it turn it back on. It wouldn't turn over just like in the video.

@@robertapplegate7261 I took the bottle cap from a water bottle, drilled appr a 3/8 hole in the center, then sliced it 3 ways to make 6 triangular points, then forced it over the stem after the linkage was slipped back on. So far it is still working.
