I have worked with toyota products for many years and for anyone who cares to know, it is the quality that you don't see that makes the machine. Right down to the airbag deployment system these cars are unique and high quality. There is only one company that competes and it is also Japanese. The bad side. because of the new safety and emission laws. also even though we think everyone wants to buy the old supra, that's not true. you might find fanboys everywhere but fanboys 90% of the time don't have the money to buy or maintain such cars. the companies build cars that will appeal to the most people and most people want reliable, cheap and convenient cars. that is why cars with bigger engines and manual gearboxes are going extinct.

Koenigsegg is working on valveless head technology, and they are working to put it on other cars. I realize emissions laws are more stringent now, but utilizing cutting edge technology like the Koenigsegg tech on a 2jzgte block would be KILLER. Also, update the safety regs, etc, but a modernized reissue would be siiiiiiick

I wholeheartedly agree. I understand that I'll never shift as quickly (in one direction, anyway) as this incarnation of the automatic, but it's an integral component of the experience of driving. Then again, I don't like any of the technology (the nanny stuff) that makes it fairly easy for practically anyone to hot-lap a track. Every time I fold myself into my aging car, I appreciate how little technology ruined it. That said, I actually do like the appearance of this Supra and see, beneath what aero developments have done to graceful lines, the nod to the 2000GT.

Yeah this and the lack of power to today's standards is very disappointing. Let's look at the history of the great Japanese sports cars. 1997 Acura NSX (290hp) -> 2018 Acura NSX (573hp) ; 1996 Nissan GT-R (400hp) -> 2018 Nissant GT-R (565hp) ; 1996 Toyota Supra (320hp) -> 2020 Toyota Supra (335hp???). Did they miss the trend?? Car still looks cool and has 50/50 weight distribution.

yes the 2jz is a 20 year old platform but it was almost bulletproof and you could build it up to just over 2,000 hp from what i have seen in racing. Also i said for them to revise the 2jz . They could have put better emissions, fuel efficient system, newer tec, new vvt-i system, ect. The new Toyota Tacoma has both port and direct fuel injection. The Tacoma is a great, reliable, useful truck. Toyota had a amazing supra motor (2jz) that they could have updated and made amazing again for this day and age.

Im so going to buy this car if i ever could afford it, personally i like japan made products as much as the next guy, but i kind of don't care if the car will be made by bmw, this car is sold as it was 21 years ago, a 3L I6 rwd sports car, it is a similar situation with the 86, just like the ae86, the gt86 is a lightweight rwd drift machine, except it has a boxer to help it handle better, toyota is going to others because they want these engines for their sports cars, but because they mass produce sedan's suv's and truck's, they just do not currently have the estate to make the engines themselves, and this is proven when toyota dealers have 100 camry's and 4-5 GT86's, however the mr2 is going to be rereleased as well and i have a hunch that it will not be a partnership car. Other than that im still loving this car because its the soul of a toyota and i love that amazing exhaust note!

I look forward to smoking this car in my 2018 APR Stage 2 DSG Golf R. I will literally embarrass this car and my car isn't even fast compared to many highly modified performance cars out there or even stock ones. This is literally the Toyota 89 or Subaru BRZ with a turbo and slightly bigger engine and some added rice. Sad because all the other Supra's were gorgeous especially the MK4. Twin turbo V6 or turbo V8 and AWD with nostalgic type looks would have made many dreams come to reality. This car will tank like the GM's and Ford's..... Oh well. Still love my Golf R and 2 Subarus. To be honest though I'd take this over many car's out there today though. Not bad Toyota but it's very far from great and even farther from perfection 😐

Don't forget that the mk4 Supra is a short wheelbase soarer. So the BRZ is fine to me.The BMW engine has Tada working on it so I think it would be tunable like the 2jz. Don't forget that the 2jz is from Yamaha The only reason I don't like this car is no manual option.

I'm pleased this car has returned, however, would there please be a manual transmission with proper clutch pedal? you see, if this car is meant to go around corners, I'm going to want to kick the clutch once in a while. Especially if it's RWD. also, why isn't it 800hp/torque? I'd love love love to see a supra that can do a 9 second 1/4 mile off the showroom floor. That would be one last hurrah for the combustion engine.

The word Supra literally means "To Surpass" and that's what this abomination fails to do, which is Surpass it's predecessor (MkiV) and it's target/fan base's expectations.

Toyota really missed the mark on this one. 375hp is a joke. Every competitor has a more powerful car. Unless there is an engine upgrade option of nothing less than 500hp, this Supra will always be compared to everyone's second best. The styling inside and out look great, but the engine is the only stats people will see on paper. Maybe this will become a tuner car, but that's a very small market, and any engine mods will immediately void the warranty. Toyota's market research team really failed. They should have known that the public is looking for a GTR, Hellcat, Cobra or Camero killer. They all should be fired.
