The 10mm nuts on my Echo were completely rusted. All that remained of the nuts was a crusty rust ring. For anyone else who stumbles in and needs to know: -The OEM part number for the 2002 Toyota Echo Thermostat Housing Stud is: 9012606019 -My thermostat housing studs DID finally come out for me with a Torx External Socket S5. I got the 6 piece Torx E-Socket set at Harbor Freight for $9.99. -You can use M6x1.00 20mm bolts instead of the OEM studs if your Toyota dealer wants to charge you an arm and a leg, and you ride your bike there and find out they don't even have any in stock.

Gasket goes around thermostat for those who are doing it

Would the thermostat be able to cause a vacuum issue for the radiator hose?

Probably. Thermostat is one of the most important parts of the cooling system,if it does not open/release it can build up pressure and overheat or if it is stuck open your water pump can fail prematurely.

Did you bleed the system after? If so, how?

They have a plastic drain tap at the bottom if i remember correctly or remove the bottom hose.
