I’m very grateful for finding this video. We just purchased a brand new Toyota with the same Parking break. We didn’t notice until 2 days later that it makes that kind of loud sound. Thank you for this information. For me, the parkinig brake activating automatically was not a problem. The frustration (I was having), is the brake would STAY ON despite shifting out of park. I would rather use the parking brake manually. Thanks again.

Thank you! Where I live in the frozen north, the parking brake feature was causing the pads to freeze or corrode to the rotors, and they had to break free every morning - sometimes not so easily.

Whenever I have to get out of my Toyota CHR automatic on a steep driveway ( like the one in your video) to unlock a gate , I turn off the engine in park because I’m afraid the car will roll back , please tell me which method is the best one to use . When I bought it the dealer showed me to press my foot on the foot brake and press down to engage the hand break, this is all I know . Many thanks

This did not work even with not shutting off the engine. A few times shifting into park, it did, then it went back to the electronic brake engaging. This is annoying to myself and my wife whenever we drive her 2024 Highlander. It doesn’t stay! 😡

When i start the car i put my car in reverse my brake light highlights still on my dash board. Then i put the car in park then put the car in reverse and then the brake light turnes off so i can drive. Is that common in a 2022 highlander. i only have 23,000

There is not a way to do that. You are better off to get a traffic cone and place it in front of the sensor or even something like a block of wood

The 2023 Camry LE and SE trims do not have an electronic e-brake. Toyota cheaped out on those two, because they are giving the consumers a naturally aspirated V4 engine.

In the event of an electronic or power failure, I assume these electronic parking brakes wouldn't work. Is there a backup somewhere that can be manually activated? (I heard some cars have some hidden lever under the dash or something).

I think I found out the hard way today. Highlander lost power at a red light. Brake stayed engaged and tow truck had to drag it up onto their truck. Stayed stuck even when I went in manually to put the shift gear in neutral

Well I found out why today. My Highlander lost power at a red light and the tow truck had to drag it onto their bed because since pose was dead the emergency brake remained engaged. I had to pull of that cap by the gear shifter to put it on neutral since power was dead
