Thank you so much! I tried my first pair of brakes with electric parking brake and I struggled with compressing the piston at first. Wasted a few hours and once I saw this video I flew through the repair.

Next time take the motor off.find the fastener type it takes .turn it back counter clockwise till it stops while u are turning it back slowly press the caliper in when it stops ur done put cover back on .when u are done doing pads etc .then press and depress ur parking switch a cpl times .make sure ur motor is making it's sound .really that's all to it just be careful with all the hardware and such

Electronic parking brakes appear in many cases to add needless complexity and cost to what was once a simple and easier to repair system.

@@gxruffino Never had a "standard" parking fail in any car I've ever owned. Also never need a scan tool to do brakes, either. Many cars don't have user accessible brake service mode or easily obtainable service manuals. Can make DIY brake work much harder.

What you're doing on the bench with the voltage activating the brake motor in forward and reverse. That can also be done on the vehicle using the same concept by remove the plug from the motor and activating the motor with 12 Volts to retract the plunger then manually push the back.piston. I think this method also works without putting the E brake in service mode. Otherwise good video. Oh, I have a 2019 Nissan Rogue.

@gxruffino Should the hydraulic brake system fail, a driver can hold in on the button on a hand brake or hold out on the handle of a foot brake and stop the auto with the parking brake by gradually pulling it on and off or pushing it on and off. Growing up, I remember a parking brake being called an emergency brake.

You can also undo the two Allen keys on the motor and separate it and wind the piston back ,or just put in service mode

Couple of questions if you don’t mind 😊 How does the ecu “know” when to stop applying power to the motor when the pads make contact with the disc, what stops it continuously pushing. Is it a timed function or does it measure current ? After retracting the piston with the motor then installing new pads, will applying the EPB run the motor until it’s back to its usual on/off state ?

Volvo and others recommend a 9V battery on the EPB. Does that push the piston all the way back or do I still need to manually push it back after it has retracted?
@bbbindustries
@bbbindustries 10 ай бұрын
Most applications require that your caliper piston(s) be manually retracted to facilitate a new set of brake pads.

I try to rewind the epb, but it takes forever for one motor to stop. It is able to push piston out. After rewinding 5 minutes, I am able to push piston in to install new pads. The other motor works fine. Do you know what could cause the problem? Thank you. Thank you for your clear explanation of the working principles of epb motor.

I have seen other brake replacement video's where they didn't put the electric E brake in maintenance mode and have to wonder if they had problems after they finished their brake job. It's too bad that some folks don't do their research BEFORE starting their repair.

Do you use a 12v to bring that piston in and out on the bench test
@bbbindustries

Why would you want to? The replacement caliper has undergone multiple tests at the factory prior to shipping. We DO NOT recommend applying power to an EPB caliper without putting the vehicle in service mode.

Think... and listen to the video! When did he tell you to unplug the electrical connector to the brake motor? (Answer: it's before performing work on the brakes) Alternatively, if you want to blow out the piston then leave the power connected or if you want to potentially have your fingers crushed by a moving piston, then leave the power connected.
