Jimny s are very capable, yet parts are not as easy to find other that the dealership and they are expensive compared to other Japan/ asian models. Also room for passengers in the latest generation is ridiculously limited 🤠. Toyota Prado from what I've driven my friend

My friend your "A TRACK" does work but you have to be in four LOW..then place in neutral then hit "A TRACK"...it is only to be used when your beond stuck if you will... also after you disengage the "4by4" just reverse about 2 feet to turn light off...I have a 2012 FJ CRUISER and luckily it still had manual with it..so there is nothing wrong with your FJ..also GREAT VIDEO!!!

Sorry bro, same results. 4H disengages easily without having to reverse, but the light didn't come off until I switch off the car and switch back on. Also, still no ATRAC 😔

@jimblaszczyk185 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdventureRich ok Its still somewhat warm here but tomorrow I will look at manual and see for myself as I had a hard time as well when I first got...can bet that A TRACK works..it's just the sequence to engage it..does a red light flash on when you try it??..if so it's still not broken.. thanks for responding as I believe these are one of the best ever to be made💯
@AdventureRich
@AdventureRich 3 жыл бұрын
@@jimblaszczyk185 I think you're referring to the rear diff-lock which is a red dashboard light. That works perfectly for me! The ATRAC is a green light...

Friendly question … As the FJ was bought used, have you tested the integrity of the snorkel? - It’s a simple test.. Pull a plastic bag over the air inlet. Start the engine. If the engine doesn’t die from suffocation you have an air leak somewhere. Air leak equals water might enter your engine when water crossing causing serious damage.
@AdventureRich
@AdventureRich 3 жыл бұрын
This is a great suggestion! I wanted a mechanic to test the integrity for me since I bought it, but I'll give this plastic bag thing a shot and see what happens 🙏🏽 Thank you!
@BorisEkner
@BorisEkner 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdventureRich And after every water crossing, check the air filter box for water, as well as the free flow of air through the radiator making certain there’s no debris blocking or can cause damage down the road. Looking forward to your next video. 😁

Hello Rich, Thanks for the review. I exchanged emails with you when i was trying to decide best vehicle for Panama, sent picture of 2014 FJ I purchased after watching you travel across Panama. You made me confident of the decision. Took my a while to determine which car your were driving. Hadn't really heard of FJ prior to watching your videos. I'm in Panama visiting now. They are proud of the K2's here. Taking care of immigration business in Panama City, hoping to get to Boquete in September.

Absolutely second your opinions about the FJ! Just like you, I had been using the FJ for my adventures in the Caucasus mountain ranges for over 11 months and it absolutely rock! With that said, one needs to do a couple of mod in order to go into mud pits and rivers .. elevated diff breather, alternator water-proofing and etc!
@AdventureRich
@AdventureRich 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reminder about the diff breather. I got used to the elevated one in the Ranger, and forgot this one isn't!

I’m offended! You didn’t mention my Gen4 Jimny! 😢😂 Jokes aside, yes it is a very capable vehicle, it ticked a lot of my boxes but it didn’t make my list due to gas milage and local “maintenance/repairs” by uneducated bush “mechanics”. Congratulations to a very good off roader that fits your needs and environment.

I have a 2010, 80,000 km. I live in Chile. 3 inch lift kit, cooper 33 sst pros, winch, snorkel / scuba kit. my wife and I drove it in 2019 all the way around the Patagonia of Chile and Argentina, all the way to the end of south america. muddy forest, to dry pampas. In Argentina, due to the pot holes, had all four tires off the road more than once. big thumbs up on the interchangeable parts everything from the landcruiser to the hilux share parts, even if the FJ is not that common. You don't see a lot of American vehicles in the Patagonia, because parts are nearly non-existent. biggest complaint is the gas tank. Argentina gas stations can be very far apart, and often do not have gas for days at a time. They also do not let you cross the boarder with full gas cans, to stop the smuggling to chile of their subsidized gas. so a bigger / second gas tank is on my super wish list for upgrades.

I have always owned Ford Explorer, I have a 2007 4X4 now but it's not really designed for off road, back roads yes but it would never do the stuff your FJ is doing. I too didn't like the look of the FJ when it first came out but now I want one but as you said they are expensive here in the US. A 2010 or newer is going to cost $30k-$40k. You can find 2007's for the $15k range. I am looking for just that prefect FJ for me at the right price and I will probably get one. P.S. are you permanent in Panama now?
