Great information! I am using FJ60 knuckles/rotors/calipers for a disc brake conversion on a 1972 FJ40. The FJ60 disc brake backing plates/dust shields I have are rusted out and difficult to find a good pair. Do the backing plates from mini-truck or FJ80 interchange onto the FJ60 knuckles/rotors/calipers? What is the interchangeability of backing plates?

I am just about 100% sure all the mini truck 79-85 will fit the only difference is the thinner rotor the backing plates are interchangeable

Great info! Do you know if the FJ40 steering arms fit into the mini pickup knuckles?

Great info…good to know there are knuckle options. Question: can I put a Late 70’s early 80’s truck/4Runner knuckle on my 74 fj40?

For the price and work involved. Why not just upgrade to a whole new axle that already has disc brakes from factory. Maybe I'm wrong, but seems much easier.

That is a very good option if you can find one. They are very rare. When I come across one I can sell for 1,500$ in a day easy. 4 speed gear boxes and disc brake axles are sold before I get them they are in such high demand.

Hi, do you have 4 more brackets? I want to convert my 79 Land Cruiser front and rear drums to disc.

I saw your yellow Cruiser.. very nice. What country are you in I thought FJ's after 75 had disc brakes?
@lazlosfj40garage584 жыл бұрын
@@landcruiserintervention9443 Sadly no, both the 78 and 82, here in Ecuador are 4 wheel drum. A video on my 82 is coming soon... But ya... no disc brakes.

What thickness is the plate of the bracket? And how does it affects the spline engagement on the aisin hubs?
@landcruiserintervention94434 жыл бұрын
Hi the bracket was 1/4" thick. You know I never thought about it but it would space the locking hub out that 1/4" but it seemed to be fine. I used FJ80 disc for the one with the ASCO hubs this one had Warn hubs and it seemed OK

@@landcruiserintervention9443 Fair enough, I'm looking into building something like this, I have one caliper/rotor from a 80 series Landcruiser, looking into getting a hold of one pair more and then going this way. I need to swap my rings, as the are the old style that won't fit a caliper....do you happen to know if a 15" ring will accomodate those calipes? Thank you very much.
@landcruiserintervention94434 жыл бұрын
@@thor06m I am almost sure they should clear a 15" I think the stock split rim 15's don't fit disc for some reason but aftermarket steel wheels should fit they fit over the GM conversion and I don't think the fj calipers are larger the only clearance issued I've had was the balancing weights in the inside of the rim will hit the tie rod ends on the drag link depending on the wheel off set.

I am who made them. That is an old design. We have redesigned them to be ambidextrous. They are on my website in brackets only or kit form, www.jtoutfitters.com

HI. very cool to talk to you, did I have them on backwards? I was looking at them trying to figure out left or right, I got the brackets in a trade almost 20 years ago and there was no info with them. I thought maybe the issue was using a different milled rotor that wasn't done by you guys, thought the specs were maybe different inside the hat.
@joeturpin61143 жыл бұрын
@@landcruiserintervention9443 You have them on correctly, I always say pointing at the transfer case. The bracket were originally made up from old rear disc brake bracket parts, there was a right and left. Later we went to a ambidextrous model, which went on either side. Rarely do I see the rotors go completely down over the hub. Because the rotors and hubs are both cast, there is enough unevenness that they rub. There is a casting mark on the hub or a crown that can be easily cleaned off with an angle grinder to allow them to seat. Also, remember to remove the back back stop on the knuckle, they are front and rear, so removing one does not matter. They often interfere. This has been a good product for us and many of our customers. The pads are easily sources, ask for a 84 Monte Carlo.
