Ring and pinions are my favorite thing to work on ever since Extreme 4x4 was airing, I like to set my backlash on the tight end so when the gears get some miles on them and mesh nicely they have the perfect backlash then. Thanks for all the great tips Ian.

I love this, I did all of this on my Isuzu with all the wrong tools. BTW 51:08 your hair looks good, don't sweat the image. The brilliance of Metallica cutting their hair short in their prime means they don't have to keep a long rock-n-roll hairdo into their 50's 60's and 70's. Look at the Rolling Stones.

This is far more entertaining and vastly more informative as opposed to the MT channel's short quips coupled with commercials but we get it why MT has to do it that way. For the front diff, can you a Torsen diff from the frs/86/brz. It is an 8”. It is 95%drop in. The side gear “may” depending on that application, have to have a it machined for the snap ring on the axles. For carrier bearing, you will need to add a 5mm spacer on one side, and machine 5mm off the the other side. It will require the 3rd gen Supra carrier bearings as they are thinner. Good thing about a torsen, if a wheel that does not have traction, lightly apply the brakes, that Will give a load for the worm gears to engage and drive the tire that has friction. Very smooth and easy on driveline. Last, depending on application, the ring gear bolt holes might need to be machined to a bigger diameter. There are no lock tabs, so use red locktite

I blew my front carrier ( 4.0 v6), Toyota clai.s that theres none available throughout the country and they were not sure when will it be available, so i end up purshasing through EBay from the same year 2005 Tacoma 4wD that came o u t of 2.7 4cylinder.FEATURES

Where did you get the x .7 backlash calculation from? I had 0.008 @ the pinion flange. I just reused the factory shims that came in it when i installed a eaton E locker in the front of my 01 Tacoma and wired the power into the 4LO safety computer brain for the rear electric factory locker design so it can’t be used except when in 4LO for protection for the Diff and driving safety. Those Arbs seals in the collar with the copper line tend to leak and those 7.5” front clamshell diff are alot of work to tale apart to replace unlike the rear diff 8”/8.25” design or a American diff cover design.
