It's normal for a aging pick up to be honest just like other japanese pick ups except for the isuzu mazda twins. Ranger next gen would take the cake all day. For the NVH compared to ranger yes but compared to let's say navara, the navara is much noisier than this even the engine alone and sound insulation. Its similar to the nvh on strada but you can hear more road noise a bit on the strada. The engine can be playful once it is fully break in based on experience compared when it is new. It has the similar character of the previous 3.2 ranger but has more top end power than sa 3.2 ranger. Other than that I do agree with this honest review tho. I hope the next gen hilux will be so much better than the current gen based on other newly release toyota products these days.

This is one honest, straight to the point no nonsense review/impression. I agree with the hilux being outdated, stiff suspension and somewhat on the pricey side. But then again, many people would buy a pick up for its purpose and that is, it being a utility vehicle. Though some buy pick up as their daily drive for them to "feel safer" because of its ride height and its size. At the end of the day Toyota followers will choose Toyota becuase it is a Toyota. Reliable and tested.

"I tried to look for potholes... but I realised I didn't need too." Ouch! Can't think of a better line to describe Hilux's suspension! 🤣 I used to drive Hilux working in the rural areas and it felt like riding a wild horse. Ford is insanely torquey 1 to 2k(becareful in traffic) definitely great for overtaking until you used up all the gears going highway speed. Toyota performs in higher revs reasons why it can towed more consistently without jerking going fast speed, the engine used the torque like sudden burst but in all rev points mid gear change reasons why those engines famous. Ford still wins tho when it comes to interior... There's a reason why toyota still beating ford in sales tho, overhauling is the name of the game. Tried both for a month, while towing a 1.5 ton boat.

i find your comment contradicting to what he said since he says the torque is at the lower rpms and he feels like the hilux has less power at the higher rpms. ive ridden both and they're both torquey at the same time. only reason why the ford feels like it doesnt have a power loss is because of that 10 speed transmission. each gear keeps it at a constant rpm while accelerating

The Toyota Hilux will always be the preeminent pickup in the market…. Looking at the tire spec (265/60 R18), gear ratios and engine rpm, including the speed limiter on it, both the manual transmission and the auto one shares the same gearing ratios. Not only that, both the 2.4-litre and the 2.8-litre apart from its 4x4 feature of the latter, share also the same gearing ratios…. Both can speed up to +170’sh kph, regardless of their displacements (1GD-FTV and 2GD-FTV), however, the bigger displacement 1GD-FTV accelerates faster In terms of fuel consumption, however, the 2GD-FTV is sizably more fuel efficient coming from owning a 2.4-litre 2022 model Hilux Conquest manual transmission (14.1 km per litre) and a 2021 model Fortuner LTD 4x4, which is inherently coming with a 1GD-FTV engine and mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission (10.8 km per litre) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWfUk4ulbq1qpdk
