I came close to getting a new Triton a couple of years ago, would have done the deal until I noticed no rear locker. Salesman was a clown but eventually it became clear - no rear locker available for any Triton in Malaysia. Totally wasted my time even looking at it, cos any aftermarket fit would screw the warranty.
@jamiemckennon19442 жыл бұрын
@@bigglyguy8429 that's not actually true. The dealer would have to show that the locker was what cause the warranty issue. If they can't do that the warranty is valid. Same goes for any aftermarket accessories
@bigglyguy84292 жыл бұрын
@@jamiemckennon1944 Well that sounds nice in concept but here in Malaysia I wouldn't want to rely on consumer laws or whatever. They don't call them Stealerships for nothing, and all dealers are on the lookout for ways to avoid being on the hook for warranty work. I guess in Australia or the UK you could make a case, maybe. I also have to question my willingness to get my hard-earned to a company that tried to fob me off with a vehicle incapable off-road in the first place?
@jamiemckennon19442 жыл бұрын
@@bigglyguy8429 mate I wouldn't underestimate how far an unlocked Triton will go. It has the best 4wd system with traction control on the market and it will outdrive a lot of 4wds with rear lockers. Also with the money you'll save you can easily do aftermarket lockers front and rear and bigger tyres with a lift. Then you'll have a 4wd 10x more capable than the rest

I drive a 2015 MQ Triton and have modified it for both off-roading and touring. Have addressed the suspension and power issues with a lift, UCAs and engine tune. The thing is an absolute weapon in my humble opinion now. I love watching these ute of the year videos as it gives me a great insight into all the pros and cons of the modern day dual cab. My first ever brand new car, and first 4x4 was my current MQ Triton. I got the Sports Edition, mainly for the rear diff lock, and I've honestly never had to use it in over 4 years of ownership. I'm now starting the modification journey with lift, tires, chassis mount canopy all going on in the last year. Next up will be brakes, bar work and possibly a tune. One thing that strikes me on every one of these ute tests, is the Mr Everything role the Triton plays. The thing keeps up with the big boys in almost every regard. Thing only let down is the smaller engine, and even so, if you are wanting to tow a 3 tonne caravan, the mid-section ute market probably isn't for you tbh. Love the work lads!

I have a 2020 Triton & it's perfect for me. I never considered them until I watched your 2021 review. This is probably the first Ute of the Year where I thought a Ranger would actually be a good choice, but my heart is with the MR Triton, which is why I bought myself a 2022 GLX+. If you're not putting a big canopy on it, the overhang doesn't matter that much, and the excellent value for money is hard to go past. Good stuff lads, loved the video. The ute comparison videos have to be my favourite. The only thing I think was missing, which you've done in previous years is cabin comfort, and ease of use with the technology. I know it's not related to the 4wd aspect of the utes but I wish you'd put it in at the end as bonus content which doesn't go towards the overall score. I feel it just gives a more comprehensive review of the utes and most people use their utes as both a 4wd and daily driver, so it would be nice to know. Great stuff though, keep it up.

Great video! I love the UTE of the year videos! I drive a 2016 2.2 Ranger (6MT) 4x4. So far the promising options look like the Triton and Ranger! I really hope the Ranger can do better and it's fantastic to hear that Ford has actually started listening to their customer feedback! I have always been a lover of Mitsubishi (huge Pajero & Triton fan) and have always thought of them as the most capable out of the factory due to their exceptional build quality and fitting various coolers straight out of the factory. Everyone knows - the killer of a vehicle is heat & Mitsubishi has always been one step ahead in this regard. Can't wait for the next video! Lets see who wins!

Buying a new one would be a hard choice, lots of great options. But for me it would probably end up being the Toyota. Love the practical details like the alternator placement and serviceability on it! However, for the climate I live in, a huge factor to consider would be how the different vehicles could handle the cold weather (can reach -40c or below). Now I'm driving a Toyota 4Runner -91, and it is awesome! Greetings from the land of Surströmming, Sweden

Since they have taken on board customer feedback I would of thought they would lean more into the offroad capabilities! I drive a 1991 triple locked 80 series, my pick for the ute of the year would have to be the humble hilux, as you showed in these tests its not top of the table across the board but overall ticks the boxes! I was leaning towards the ranger but that front end is disgusting! Cheers lads!

The Triton that was tested wasn’t the brand new one. The look of the stereo is slightly different and there’s a button above the volume lever on the steering wheel that allows you to see your cameras while driving. My GSR arrived into Aus at the end of July and has that capability.

I’ve just put an order on a new Mitsubishi triton Club cab/ space cab for all the reasons that you guys rated it for. Excellent Value for money, reliability, and respectable overall performance. I’ll be setting it up as both a tradie work vehicle and a camping vehicle. Being a club cab I don’t think the rear axle will be as much of an issue once I put a lightweight 3/4 canopy on it. The other vehicles were great too however budget plays a big factor and leaves me with more money for modifications and tools for work 👍🏻

I've got a MQ triton which shares some DNA with the MR triton. I think another category that should have been added was warranty. Considering the price point of the Triton and it's 10 Year warranty, I think that would be a massive factor for new ute owners today when deciding on making a new vehicle purchase. I think it wouldn't change which ute would win but it would probably shuffle around the Triton from 4th. Great video, would love to see Nissan in next year.

I’ve recently ended up with a ML Triton and must say I’m pretty impressed with the off-road capability stock. For my money, when it comes to this years choice of Ute, I would have to pick the Hilux. The Toyota tax seems lower these days, but resale value should remain high. On top of that, great service support and plenty of Toyota service centres around the place for parts. Great video, Hilux for me. Value, reliability, resale value, after market parts and mods, the biggest dealer network in Australia for access if something goes wrong on a big trip, the fact it shares an engine and gear box with the Prado & Fortuner, not mention a stack of other changeable parts means even more available parts all around Australia
@bigglyguy84292 жыл бұрын
Super relevant points. A big reason I stick with an older Hilux is the easy availability of parts and mechanics who know the truck. As was mentioned, the D-Max keeps changing parts and that's an absolute no-no for me, as it forces you back to the dealer every time (and there's only one Isuzu dealer near me). If buying new then re-sale value is an issue, and here in Malaysia that means the Ford drops drastically, and the Hilux scores big. As the Mazda is a rebadged D-Max they both drop to 3rd place for me, so it's Ranger if money no issue but really the Hilux is the smarter choice, especially as we don't know the Ranger long-term, and we do know Ford don't give a rat's ass about their customers. For me, I'll stick with my old Hilux Vigo, so I can go off-road and not worry too much, and there's no electronic crap to break (I fitted my own 360 cam)
