We totally transform the performance of this Toyota Hilux 5L LN167 by fitting and tuning a HD Automotive turbo kit to the engine. Starting with only 50HP... we doubled the power output with safe dyno tuning.

Can you adapt this turbo setup onto a 5L on a 2002 Dyna JDM Ly270 5spd AWD 1 Ton Double cab?

5L engine that has been serviced every 5,000km and runs no problems handle this without a rebuild? Engine has done 400,000

Absolutely it would

I have a couple of these L engines turboed and compounded aswell... my fuel screw is wound in a bit more than this video shows 😂... A intercooler makes a huge difference on these... like 180 degrees exhaust temp difference without changing anything

Yeah we have done a handful of 200HP + builds, they don’t last long being abused It certainly does!

Wdym by compounded?

@misterpotato4775 2 turbos feeding into each other too get alot higher boost pressure... it turbos the 2nd turbo

Any reason not to start your run at say 1200rpm? Would be nice to see the boost ramp
@hd_hayden4 ай бұрын
Have started these as low as 1000rpm for testing purposes, the thing about having 57 HP is at 1200rpm it’s probably only got like 5-10hp at this rpm, which is not enough to make a significant enough tractive effort on the rollers for the initial base line run and the run will cut in and out until it has enough torque to read correctly. It just looks ugly when trying to overlay against a tuned run where it does have enough power to read. For the sake of the question though, we will be making much more in depth content as well in the future, but for now we are only 7 videos in so the time will come 😊

How would you go about tuning a ln167R with efi. Just curious if id have to get a chip to get the fuel pressure needed to make the power.
@hd_haydenАй бұрын
A Unichip sorts that out!
@dominicforman4566Ай бұрын
hey was wondering if it was worth tuning these ln167 without turbo and if you see much power gains or do you recomend getting a turbo just going from there?
@hd_haydenАй бұрын
Not at all mate, not worth the time. Definitely needs a turbo

Good result it’s interesting Hayden I own a 2003 5le hilux turboed dynoed before it made 198 nm now with garret t25 turbo made 260nm only 9 And a half pound boost I’m doing a pwr water to air intercooler could I see more out of it ? Stock with chip Already or should I invest in the uni chip ? cheers let me know what you think great video keep Them Coming 😊
@hd_haydenАй бұрын
Unichip would make a massive difference here mate

@@hd_hayden Thank you for replying with uni chip I know it will be a lot better about 100 nm tourque?

@@hd_hayden how do you rate the Garret t25 turbo ?
@chrismrnzevski527Ай бұрын
The t25 garret turbo is good a touch bigger than the tdo4 .spools abit later than the tdo4 about 1800 in the middle there but holds boost abit better I reckon at about 95-110klm range . Will hold Nicely.

I found the g52 is actually quite strong if it doesnt have a sh1t driver in control ... most g52s die because of v6s and v8s conversions with tough drivers.... my compound turbo diesel 4 runner has not killed a g52 with 38.5 inch tyres... yet the w56 in my surf with 33s has to had to have the bearings replaced every 10 months.. I now have gone to a r151 in that.... Also if you have done a lot of 4x4ing a hilux you would know why a g52 is better to have than the others... they can save hours
@slyrider013 ай бұрын
@@bingysbackyard useful input on your practical experience. When you say "they [G52 gearbox] can save hours" in terms of 4x4ing, would you able to provide a bit more background on what you mean there? Thanks.

@@hd_hayden any feel on a practical limit on hp &/or torque as a thumbsuck on what a G52 can cop?
