Every car I have ever owned has never had secured mats. Never had any problems. 👍

Those floor mat checks are STILL happening at Toyota service to this day! It’s in the paperwork you get back when they finish your service be it oil change or whatever.

Just undo the clips when getting car serviced at dealership and see if they are fastened when one gets the car back😅

I have similar mats in my 06 Tundra DC and I had the opposite problem! I couldn't seem to accelerate going up hills. Flat road was fine. Took it to my shop and they test drove it and had the same issue until it was discovered that the aftermarket floor mat had crept up and under the accelerator, just as you described! This was a first for me, and I have been driving Toyota trucks since 1984. Now, I check my mats and pull them to the seats when I get in!😊

I have had those exact rubber floor mats in my 3 Corolla's for years. Never had a problem. I know there is a possibility it could get stuck but they never have.

Great safety tip. You can't buy OEM mats for my mom's 2004 Camry LE so we wound up buying third party and then using brass rivets to make secure holes in the third party mats so they worked with the safety pins.

I found a set of OEM mats at Pick-N-Pull for a pretty great price. Just needed to wash em.

Hey Peter, I've just cleaned my "corolla" MAF sensor, for now the 3rd time since I've owned it. Just like you've shown me, from your vid. Thank you VERY MUCH!

I just purchased a set of OEM floor mat hooks for a new-to-me 2014 Yaris. Why they were missing, I don't know.

I may be dating myself, but there was a scandal with Audi, where cars would accelerate unexpectedly. Turned out to be operator error 😅

Update: I ordered the floor hooks and installed one for my driver's side mat. My 06 only has one hole for the hook, so I attached it easily and the OEM mat slides right on. I added my rubber mat on top by poking a hole and slipping it onto the hook as well. Thank you for mentioning this issue. It reminded me to take care of it asap!

Yes, I remember this, on the news. I've since bought "Weather Tec" mats, and they too come with they're own "HOOKS" , but I still use the stock Toyota HOOKS, works FINE!

It is interesting that you don't hear about this problem with other auto manufactures, but Toyota's are the most popular selling vehicles in America

I recently bought 2003 4Runner, the carfax says it has outstanding 'recall' for gas pedal...I assume it is this same safety issue that the previous owner never had done. I have aftermarket heavy rubber mats installed.

I bought a set of Eagle Klaw floor mat clips from amazon and have no more issues thankfully.

I one time had a beer bottle roll under the brake pedal on a Buick, luckily, I was able to kick it out of the way before a crash.

Toyota and Nissan should have stuck with their bread and butter compact cars and trucks. Remember the Nissan King Cab? Best truck I ever owned. I loaded that truck down with cross ties no problem. Better fuel economy than the new trucks we have today. Also have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4, it was a good truck for it's time, but modern technology had started to creep in by then. Like Ford putting the security module inside the instrument cluster. That's stupid. Another thing this truck has is the speed sensor is an indirect signal and not on the tail shaft of the transmission or transfer case, but on the rear end and fed through the ABS module. Another dumb idea! I don't like anything new. I'd rather have a plain metal key and I don't like my dash lighting up like a neon sign telling me my TPMS has a problem and my oil needs changing. The equivalent of idiot lights on my 2007 GMC truck. But yet it has no oil pressure gauge and if the engine runs low on oil or water, it will run until you pull over or the engine blows. What about that!

Well, the matts not such a problem, the 1/2 dozen soda cans lodged under the break peddle, well that's a problem! Thanks for posting.

It should be common sense that if you are accelerating and your cruise control is not on that the petal is probably being depressed and to have a look at the accelerator.
@TheRealRenn14 күн бұрын
Just install some WeatherTech or similar mat with spikes on the bottom. Problems solved. That Prius story reminds us how stupid humans can be.

Crossing the street is more dangerous to you and the driving public. Common sense dictates how to and what type of after market floor mat will work.

It was a CHP officer and his family that was driving on the 125 freeway where it met with Mission Gorge Road. It was a rented Lexus from Bob Baker Lexus. They knew that the floor mats were bad and crumpled up, yet they let the car out. The Bob Baker dealership was sued and ultimately closed. Bob Baker died and is probably burning in hell for all of the bad dealerships and burned customers.

I was driving my Toyota Avalon to Camp Pendleton, CA to visit my daughter and niece. They were preparing to deploy to Iraq when I heard this story over the radio. The local dealership altered the accelerator pedal and checked the ECM and reflashed it with a new software update that Toyota implemented. In the end, there were “run away” Toyotas as the media perpetuated. It was all man made laziness and lack of common sense for a few Toyota owners that created this nightmare. 😅😅😅

Every person who had that done should have their license revoked if they’re that stupid .
