Really cool review. Range of hybrid looks impressive at first. Then I did a quick math. It saves roughly 2 Rs per km. Difference between a high end Hycross Petrol and low end Hycross Hybrid is about 5.6 lakhs. So if you really need to have saved at least 1Rs from this deal, you'll have to drive like 2.8 lakhs km. I'd rather put my 5.6 lakhs in a savings account with 4 interest rate. Gives me 207 litres of fuel per year calculated at 108 rs per litre. That makes about 2900km with mileage you gave. Even more with better rates. 😅

Me too have the same view, even i think the same. I won't be able to churn out even a difference of 2.5lcas in 5years if my average driving is 24k km per year ! Well wld buy gx and spend another 1lac on upgradations 😊

What Maths😅😅😅 you need mentally peace/ Freedom while driving so Hybrid is. These maths never churned out. As old as your car goes mileage goes down. I myself have Strong Hybrid in highways it gives me mileage of 50 with ac on. I remember that add Petrol khatam hi nahi hota

Instead of fortuner should have been taken Innova crysta Diesel that would have been much more sense ...than Crysta would have been much cheaper in running cost beating so called Strong Hybrid

Hardly. It returns 12kmpl. Diesel is almost as expensive as petrol now. And the car is scrapped much sooner

@@97priyam what it returns is depend on driving style of person who drives "12" is not everyone's figure...It's upon zigwheels to tell approximately it returns and, still running cost is concern in long term it is still Diesel which is better also Scrap is only in some parts not in entire India. here the channel is for global or rather all India so the people living will decide whether to buy or not...

I think diesel will have high cost due to DEP and high maintenance. Hybrid has advantage of low maintenance petrol engine + great mileage(better than diesel engine) Hycross Hybrid is best car out there to buy currently( low engine noise. Smooth ride. High mileage) make it best for long drives and city

Mighty impressed with the FE of regular petrol. 13.87 is damm good for a car of this size. To put things in perspective, I get similar numbers with my Grand i10.

Man, I don’t understand how could the manufacturer accept the tyre size for this car. You look from 3/4s and the tyres almost disappear inside the fender!! :(

Wow!! What a comparison! Hats off to Zig Wheels ! I personally own Hycross Hybrid and one literally needs to go to petrol pumps rarely on this car ! My car delivers a mileage of 19- 23 kmpl and the ride/seats are damn comfortable during long journeys!!

I am getting over 19.5kmpl constantly with my VX variant. I have done three fuel tank mileage test. And I am running on normal mode. This consist of both city and highway drive. 😊 Very nice video 👌🏻

I also made small maths calculation here: Toyota Innova Hycross GX(O) On-Road Price in Bangalore:*Rs.26,50,615* Toyota Innova Hycross VX (Hybrid) On-Road Price in Bangalore:*Rs.32,76,722* - so the difference is roughly 6L … consider 2rs difference bet hycross & hybrid. if i drive up to 3lakhs kms for 6 years with hybrid then only i would reach 6Lakhs rupees saving. And round about buying only Hycross is worth. I have not included the hybrid battery replacement charges after 1.5 Lakhs kms. well just to enjoy high end features like ADAS, Ventilated Seats, Cruse control, and some features purpose only you can take Hybrid models. I would invest that 6lakhs in some real estate with some add on money.

This is very interesting. In the Honda city hybrid comparison test, the diesel still came out on top. But here in the heavy SUV/MPV segment where it actually makes sense for a diesel powertrain, the petrol hybrid came out on top. The diesel even had 28L extra capacity and it still gave less fuel efficiency, more cost/km, & it'll only give an extra 68km of range compared with the hybrid. That is impressive. Wondering how much more weight the fortuner carries, being bigger and with a ladder frame chassis. Maybe that played some role.

659 km for a full tank 2.0 engine. That range is awesome for a 2.0 gas engine. My 2013 Innova 2.0 Gas 4 speed AT only have 380-390km range on a full tank.

I own a harrier automatic and I am very happy. (3 years, 40000 kms) I was bitten by the hybrid and ADAS bug, visited the showroom to see if I can get the hybrid. Boy, the moment I sat in the driver seat, I headed back to the door. The vehicle is cramped and I started feeling claustrophobic. Will keep my Harrier for some more time.

If petrol gx vs hybrid gx exists.... Right now price difference is 4lakhs extra for hybrid... According to this test, we have to drive 2 lakh kilometers to justify premium for hybrid..... Looks like petrol gx is good value for money, for people who don't drive more than a 1000kms per month like me...nice video... Great work

Wrong calculations. GX OTR 22.77L VX OTR 29.5L difference 6.5 lakhs upfront Mileage Gx 10 kmpl minimum Vx 19 kmpl minimum (Note : i take minimum mileage because gx ne 13.5 kmpl mileage diya hai video mai but hamesha yehi nhi hoga city mai kam bhi hoga toh 10 kmpl man lete hai kam se kam) Hence to cover 6.5L upfront cost u need to use hybrod vehicle for 1,25,000 kms atleast. Also innova hycross hybrid battery cost 2.5L right now (not in india but outside india coverted into INR) Although it has 8 years warranty. Hence gx is value for money.

Kudos to ZIG WHEELS for this test. For someone who is considering the HYCROSS this test provides a meaningful insight. However a direct comparison with the latest gen INNOVA CRYSTA instead of the FORTUNER would have been the icing on the cake. Thanks.

No surprising results in this test, except the Goa detour of course 😂 Even with the higher investment, given how the fuel prices fluctuate (mostly upwards), the Hybrid, if driven more, may not be able recover the cost difference but could potentially make that extra investment feel worth it. But then with the hybrid and electrics, the question remains about the battery. Given the smaller size battery of a hybrid, it goes through far more charge cycles than its electric counterpart. As we know the efficiency of the hybrid is largely based on the torque/power assist the battery/motor provides, now, how long do you think it will be before a hybrid user starts seeing difference in efficiency figures? Will it be negligible? If not, how much will the replacement cost? Wont that effect the second hand value of the product? It was nice to hear Mr. Kamath speak Konkani, though Mr. Shenoy didn't extend the same courtesy 😛 While Fortuner dwarfs everything on road, Mr. Kamath dwarfs even the Fortuner😅

Driving experience of the Hybrid is way better than the petrol. Plus you can get all the comfort and luxury features which you can’t get in the petrol. Then the green image, which may matter to some if not to all. Hybrids are also more future proof

Great comparison…Seems Petrol Innova makes more sense than even Diesel Auto …. Hybrid has a savings of 2 rupees per Km … so the break even point is like 3-4 lakh kms ( considering the price difference is 6 to 8 lakhs )

Thanks for watching. Do account for the difference in variants between the two powertrains too. Not only is the hybrid more efficient and a stronger performer, it’s also offered in higher variants with more features which also adds to the price premium

Lets assume, we drive 3.5 lakh km on each car. As per the data results from this video Hybrid- Rs.5.69*350000= Rs19,91,500 NA- Rs.7.67*350000= Rs.26,84,500 We save almost 7 lakh from Hybrid cars. That is great but we would have changed the hybrid batteries twice which costs 4 lakh each time. So total 8 lakhs lost. To save the 7 lakh, we need to spend 8 lakh on battery. So the clear winner is NA Petrol in terms of mileage. In case if you are buying the car in emi thinking that you will get best mileage. Car price difference is already 6 lakh and bank interest will be close to 2 lakhs. So again there will be 8 lakh difference. If you buying the car in mileage point of view, just go with NA Petrol

Even if we count 6 lacs price difference and not 9, it will take 3 lac kilometers and even more if you count the interest for hycross to cover the price difference between the petrol version. But the real differentiator will be the city ride test as petrol engines give obscene mileages in city while hybrids give more mileage as pure EV mode is activated at low speeds.

I go for petrol version . And invest the amount saved from buying a hybrid variant in a good mutual fund and easily earn 10% to 15% per annum from that amount. From interest amount it will be used for my petrol expenses.

Superb comparison! The number crunching at the end was great. Just one more thing you could've added - break even point. How many kilometres you need to drive the hybrid to cover the extra money that you pay for the hybrid variant.

The breakeven point would be far lower if you discount the 5-6 lakh worth of additional features that the ZX (O) has over the GX. But like you rightly pointed out, a Hybrid car at current price points will not make sense in the overall cost of ownership scheme of things. If Toyota had the VX/ZX spec for the non-hybrid, that’d be very interesting!

A lot of people buy diesel over petrol or electric over ICE or CNG over petrol or hybrid over petrol - just because they're cheaper to run, without doing this break even point calculation. And most people don't even use the car till break even point, which is mostly a few lakh kilometres.

Hey, how about a running cost vs cost price break-even comparison? The Rs / KM was might useful, but Fortuner and Hybrid are tens of lakhs more expensive than non-hybrid Hycross and each other. I know Fortuner is apples to oranges in the mix, but just to indulge a buyer, could you add a break even km too considering on-road prices?

The total tank range on a Fortuner diesel is 1040km with a 80 litre tank. The total tank range on a Innova HyCross Hybrid is 972km on a 52 litre tank. Fuel advantage Fortuner has: 80-52= 28 litres Tank Range advantage Fortuner has: 1040-972= 68km Hence the statement.

One thing I could understand from this review is to buy the GX petrol variant is good because there is a difference of 8 lakhs in on road price between GX petrol variant and VX hybrid variant , and 14 lakhs difference of high end model (zx) . There is very little changes in the interior and exterior between the GX Petrol and the VX Hybrid. The GX petrol variant costs Rs 714,285 to run 1 lakh km at an average of petrol price Rs 100 per liter, while the VX hybrid model costs Rs 526,315 to run 1 lakh km and the difference is Rs 187,969 , If the difference of 8 lakhs is to be accounted for, the vehicle must be driven for more than 4 lakh kilometers and The Average After 3 lakhs km the battery will have to be changed and for that you will have to pay lakhs . Conclusion ; petrol variant is best for family use

Did some math here: If you drive Hybrid for 30,000km, At cost/km, it'd cost you: 1,70,700 And Non-hybrid: 2,30,100 So you'll save just 60k! Andd, the diff in buying is 8l+ (not denying the features and feel but this is how much you shell out)

To save Rs 2/- should anyone spend 6 lacs additionally for a hybrid? With 6 lacs in hand one can drive upto 60k kms in Non hybrid for 6 years

Ok , i still would prefer my 2023 fortuner over innova hycross hybrid .. Reasons :- 1. Robust Body On Frame Construction 2. Road Presence and Dominant Image 3. 201 bhp and 600 nm torque 4. Rear wheel drive 5. Doesn’t have fancy batteries and tech .. less to maintain in long term 6. Build Quality is Far better then Innova Hycross

*Initial cost of buying Hycross Hybrid is more. Maintenance expected to be high too though this test was not with full load capacity. Harrier/Safari on Diesel gives Upto 20kmpl with full occupants.

in my 30s too and drove from Kanyakumari to Mumbai non stop in 24 hours.. did Mumbai Tirupati and back in 3 days.. drove from Kozkikode to Panvel non stop.. Mumbai, Manali and back in 6 days.. so

Clear sense to buy petrol and Put 8 lacs in Mutual funds and pay for 800 litres annually - not to consider cost of batteries to be replaced after 8 years - this itself translates to huge shift to purchase

Great video. This is why petrol on heavier cars makes no sense unless it's a hybrid. If on a highway it's 14kmpl. Imagine how low it could be in city traffic.

@@zigwheels cool... I have personally test driven the new Hycross Hybrid.. it doesn't feel like driving a big SUV or MPV. But only demerit that u too pointed was loud noise if revv hard ! Surprised to see petrol engine this loud 📢

Beautifully done, been ages since i watched the entire video on youtube without forwarding or pausing even (20 + mins) .. As a Feedback , Toyota should work on rolling out a GX(O) model which they did for VX(O) thereby adding premium and safety additions to a Non Hybrid Petrol Engine , it'll be great for

Innova Hybrid is coming out in the Philippines starting next week. We will definitely check this out to possibly replace our thirsty Toyota Camry 2.5G

i have compared innova crysta and hycross a side the hycross build quality was really cheap just like maruti swift i donot know why they brought to such low standards ,, by pressing with finger the outer shell is bending with hycross , but when i tried on crysta it like rock so strong

We just got innova hycross Black Petrol version for 25L. (Base model) its 8L cheaper than top model. Sure its missing many cool features. But it still feels premium. And petrol and diesel have only 10 rupees difference. So just 500 rupees extra for full tank. Basically 1k extra its nothing compared to paying 8L on the spot or loaning.
