Great video with all the right detail ! Amazing to see how much more space you have on the left side of the engine bay to work versus the US cars that are left hand drive.

Thanks for the feedback, and Interesting point there about the left hand drive. There is definitely heaps of space on this side of the engine, which I guess comes in handy for a few items that get changed out on that side of the block (oil filter etc).. I guess you have lots of space on the other side to play with?
@NKPGarage

@@2ndGearLow Ya, we have a lot of space on the other side, but it's pointless. All the maintenance items are on the left side, like fuel filter, oil filter, battery, etc...

Yeah that's not great.. the fuel filter is hard enough to get to for us!

Excellent reference video. Saves me working out which spark plug socket to grab. FYI my 2000 105 has the wasted spark ignition system so I have the double electrode spark plugs and no dizzy. Slightly different.

Great job. I would prefer oem wires and also add dielectric grease on the wire plugs.
@2ndGearLow
@2ndGearLow 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks NuttyNu, appreciate you watching and commenting. Agreed on the OEM - they are usually the best option if you have access to them, but unfortunately significantly more expensive than the aftermarket in this case. We had a lead fail (likely very old, OEM) and the Bosch was the next best thing available immediately

Great video, thanks mate. Very helpful. Is there any difference between Toyota leads and the Bosch leads?
@2ndGearLow
@2ndGearLow 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting! We generally recommend OEM, but needed the leads quickly due to a failure and Bosch was the next best thing, being a high quality aftermarket option. The main differences are that the Toyota lead set comes with the plastic lead holders (clips) and are preassembled, making it much easier to replace the full set in one go. The Toyota leads also have a retaining clip at the distributor cap end which seems more secure than the Bosch equivalent. Unfortunately OEM are much more expensive for this part in our area

hey, for my 7th lead its identical on both sides except for two little numbers on each end. i dont want to plug it in the wrong way, so is there a way to tell the difference? (my old 7th lead is different, and has symbols on either end instead)

Cheers for that video. How often should spark plugs and leads be replaced??
@2ndGearLow
@2ndGearLow 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, no problem, thanks for watching. Maintenance schedule is found within the Owners Manual Supplement. For 1997 FZJ80, it has to replace OEM spark plugs (copper) every 30k miles (48k kms) or 24 months / 2 years. They don't seem to give an ignition lead replacement interval, but these should be inspected when replacing plugs (e.g. you can check wire resistance, visually inspect wire). I had one of the spark plug leads sever in the tube previously, leading to that cylinder not firing consistently, so replaced all of the leads as they were probably the original ones and had degraded over time.

Every time I go through a large puddle with a bit of speed water gets up onto my ignition leads. Causing the engine to misfire. It is self diagnosed and I’m pretty come that is the issue. Are the Bosch ignition cable waterproof or is this a silly question. It is self diagnosed through the fact that when I noticed the issue I checked my ignition cables. They were wet and I went to dry them and electrocuted myself 😂
