The Mirai is gorgeous, but the lack of rear seat space and the small trunk are disappointing in a car that big. The Nexo may look geeky, but I love the practicality, and it requires few compromises.

I own a 2017 Mirai and for all the hate the first gen gets, there is nothing the first gen does wrong, it's just the second gen does everything better. However the prices of the first gen are really great right now I got mine back in March, CPO from Toyota fully warranted until 2028, with only 35,000 miles, and the 3 year/15,000 mile gas card for only $8,500.

I owned the 2021 Mirai XLE and then switched to the 2021 Hyundai Nexo. The Mirai drives smoother, quieter, and feels more luxurious...Lexus like. I switched to the Hyundai because I have children so the rear passenger space is essential. The driver assist tech is better in the Nexo. Overall practicality goes to the Nexo. The hydrogen fueling on the other hand is just getting worse with it going up from $16/kg to now $36/kg while reliability of the stations don't appear to be getting better but more unpredictable. Neither car has any resale value do to fueling issues. Ask anyone that has owned a hydrogen car and the answer is always the same, love the cars but hate the fueling.

@@martinjackson909 There are plenty of charging stations, but it's even better to just charge at home for normal driving. I don't understand why anyone would buy a hydrogen passenger car. It is not green as hydrogen is made from natural gas reformation, a major green gas emitter. It is an expensive fuel to store and transport. There is no fueling infrastructure outside of California, and fuel shortages plague availability in California. If you don't care about being green, keep driving your ICE. If you want to be green, EVs can be charged at home or at a growing network of fast chargers across the country at a cost far lower than hydrogen.

The train has left the train station on Fuel cell Evs. BEVs have taken over partly because of cheap and predictable home charging convenience and relatively zero maintenance. I was all in favor of fully electric vehicles until I learnt about the environmental impact of mining for the giant batteries. I also became scared of seeing the EV fires. Hydrogen cars just seems like a way cleaner and safer tech if the cars use green hydrogen.
@davrukin
@davrukin 3 жыл бұрын
Statistically speaking, fires from EVs are much less common than fires from ICE cars. www.greencarreports.com/news/1133254_fires-are-less-frequent-in-teslas-and-other-evs-vs-gas-vehicles Green hydrogen is difficult to achieve at this time, and most is generated from natural gas. It’s also more expensive than oil and electricity, and uses more power to generate than is usable. Regarding lithium mining, it has much less of an environmental impact than does drilling for and burning oil. Also, used batteries can be recycled, whereas gas and oil can’t.

@@Estoooopid There's sometimes a cost to be an early adopter. Are you old enough to remember that a 16MHz IBM PS/2 cost over $10K without the monitor in the early 90s? The price will come down when more people use them. And at the moment, Toyota gives you $15000 worth of hydrogen for a new Mirai, which makes the cost of hydrogen free for most people.

Essentially yes, protons cross the permeable membrane while the electrons move along the conductors. Anode reaction: 2H2 → 4H+ + 4e− Cathode reaction: O2 + 4H+ + 4e− → 2H2O Overall cell reaction: 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O + heat + electrical energy

The fuel cell stack is very safe and the tank the hydrogen is stored in is pretty robust from what I’ve been told. That and in the unfortunate event it is ruptured, hydrogen is lighter than air so dissipates quite quickly.

Other than hopefully walking away and calling your insurance company, absolutely nothing. It would be very boring actually. I was scared too at first then did my research. H2 dissipates so fast IF the tanks were somehow punctured (not likely) it would just vent out in a heartbeat and be gone. The Hindenburg went up in flames thanks to the diesel on board for the heater, and the highly flammable outer layer, not the h2
