All the old mr2’s and supras here in the northeast US are old junk boxes , they have been sitting for years an years and the owners still want all the money for it! .. its refreshing to see your MR2 such a beauty !

Those eBay shifters are generally junk. The TRD or C’s short shifters are the best. I really like my TRD one. But a lot of people really like the 93+ shifter(which came in your car).

Yeah I guess there's isn't much shorter than my stock one :(
@jabeowaho73436 жыл бұрын
Honestly the stock shifter you have is regarded as one of the best to use. It’s hard to upgrade when it’s the only shifter you’ve used in the car and it’s considered a good one. You could try running the drop plate and the stock shifter

Improve shifting feel by getting that spring, a weightier knob and some spherical shifter bushings for your shift cables on the trans end
@RexH6 жыл бұрын
@@jabeowaho7343 yeah I'm hearing that heaps now unfortunately. My mates Honda has perfect throw and I guess that's what I'm comparing it to. Def's gonna get some shifter bushings for the back for better feel, just wish I could get that throw a bit shorter :'(

I believe thats a B&M replica kit I have a similar kit i bought thats installed in my aw11 it worked well and made a noticeable difference for the throws and feel. If you have access to a welder or know a decent fabricator all you really need to do is weld a new tab on the stock shift lever and drill a new hole higher up (thats basicly what the trd shifter is). If you want you can also just take a grinder to that rep shifter you have and remove some material until it stops hitting your shift cable, it looks like you will only have to remove a few millimeters anyway.

If you are looking for a better short shifter, a company called Supper Klasse makes a replica of the C’s short shifter. And they also make OEM style weighted shift knobs that are really nice.

Yeah Im going to get their whole shifter set up !
@mr2_nate6 жыл бұрын
Rex H Nice! Can’t wait for the install video! You might also want to get spherical shifter bushings that go on the transmission side of the shifter cables, they made a world of a difference for me.

Cheers for that mate, about to get an MR2 myself so this opens up options for me as a previous owner put switches for footwell lights in the shifter surrounding plastic. Saw that PureFunction reviewed them too and iirc he liked them.

My MR2 has that weird ass notch as well, especially with reverse I've noticed mine. Does your reverse go in quite easy? Mine is a bit difficult at times

Ben's Chill Channel dude same my first to second & reverse has a notch alsoooo

Lever & ball are held together with a set screw that comes loose. coming from somebody that just removed thiers for the 2nd time because the screw came loose.. Get it welded or use locktite atleast because I promise it's gunna come loose

Just redid my short shifter yesterday, the spring on the shifter has to be "closed" (apply force opposite of the way it sits) and the shaft goes through. The end of the springs should match up with the notches on the shifter housing.
@vapor4den6 жыл бұрын
6:19 I think if you cut a small cavity(with a dremel maybe) so that the short shirfter does not catch in the cable, it should work just fine !
@RexH6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that but when I put the interior pieces back on, putting it in 4th hit the back of the centre peice. Might try again but it's not working atm
@lowerstandards17406 жыл бұрын
Also remove spacer plate or use spacer plate and stock lever. Your gen is not as bad as earlier ones, don't need both
@109milan4 жыл бұрын
how did you remove the white cap off the shifter?

Bro we gotta drive sometime. I’ve got a 1993 MR2 turbo (4th gen 3Sgte)
@x9417m6 жыл бұрын
i would just grind down the shifter to prevent contact if you plan to keep it. If you are going to replace the shifter again with a better suited one I would recommend you install a new poly shifter bushing rather then reusing the old one (solid shifter bushings are crap in my experience, just go genuine toyota). Chuck the shifting in the freezer and the bushing in hot water and smack it on with a rubber mallet on top of some wood is easiest. Great informative video regardless.

Short shifters are for those people, cough cough, who like short gear throw. In my opinion, tall gear levers and long gear throw is cool as.
