I have exactly the same thing happening now, paid 30 francs to just read the codes and was told I better change the valve for 500 swiss francs. Now I start to realize that might not be the best and only option. I asked them if they could just clean it, since I don’t know anything about it. They said better change. Thank you for the video!

And yet! Our Audi is 13 months old less than 8000 miles and when we took it in because of the engine light it needs a whole new fuel feed fitting (under warranty thank goodness). I being from Yorkshire (or tight as the wife calls it) used to buy £500 bangers with 12 months MOT on them and they ran as good as gold. Really pleased you got your RAV4 going again Alex, Audi have had our car 7 days and its still not ready! LOL.

Il mio problema era il motorino (passo passo) elettrico che comanda egr. Egr (bruciata) originale tappata,scollegata elettricamente e montata, poi per provare ho collegato lo spinotto alla egr cinese nuova messa provvisoria con 2 fascette nel vano motore e l'errore è sparito. A volte non è solo lo sporco a dare errori. Spero possa essere di aiuto per altri rav4 mk2 2.0 d4d anno 2005

once you've cleaned the valve, my recommendation ( from experience ) - purchase an EGR valve blanking plate from eBay ( approx £5 ) and fit ......you'll never have the problem again

So you're deleting the EGR, but won't it need a internvention in the sofware part also? Or just fizical delete and all good? I need this info because i searched for someone that can delete it from the car ecu also but no succes....

@@robot11 There are two way's to go about this 1. EGR blanking plate & code out or 2. EGR restrictor plate & no need to code out - both are available on Ebay for approx UK £5 - they look the same only the restrictor plate has a small hole in it to prevent any sensor driven fault light or limp mode - hope this helps - just shout if you need any more info

I think most Japanese cars make them easy to find. however sometimes they are buried under other parts. good luck

Mine never struggled to start. The faulty EGR valve caused reduced performance. I've heard it could also affect the starting although generally you look for 3 things. fuel, air, spark.

Ours RAV4 needs more engine cranks to start, for example in this video the starter motor turns much less: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3vEqYJqaZKHj8k, and I'm wondering if our cars are ok, or if there is a problem, for example with fuel injection.

Después de hablar con Toyota. dijo el mecánico. A pesar de que había limpiado la válvula EGR, la tubería que conduce a la válvula también estaba obstruida y necesitaba limpieza.

NO this didnt work but .... i stuck a CABLE in the upper hole and cleand the pathway to the intake manifold ... that worked 😀😀😀

It all depends on how long you run the car after the check engine comes on. The longer you do the more deposits buildup before the EGR valve. I'm glad you sorted it out anyway.
