Last year I did a search for a better jack for my built and lifted GX460. I didn't want to carry a Hi-Lift, so I looked at bottle jacks. I did find one that would go 24" (Baoshishan, for those interested), but then I checked the factory Toyota jack and it goes over 19", and I wouldn't have to carry an extra jack and worry about it leaking as you mentioned in the video. So I bought a couple of extension products such as from Land Cruiser Product to augment the capacity of the factory jack and all is good
@bavardage
@bavardage 8 ай бұрын
@stevecarlson2346 Land Cruiser Product says their "medium" jack adapter is out of stock. However, out of curiosity, does this adapter fit (cradle) your _frame_ rail? It doesn't seem like it would from LCP's pictures. Cradling the rear axle, though, should be no problem ... It would seem being able to spread out the lifting forces across a larger surface area would be advantageous from a pressure viewpoint, so I'm wondering if there are any other companies that might offer adapters for our stock jack ...
@stevecarlson2346

amen! Thanks for sharing your real world data... here in America unfortunately people are heavily influenced by marketing. If it's not overtly marketed as "tough" people will dismiss it... it's small and brown... not big and neon pink with stickers that say "maxxx" or "ultra!" on it so they tend to dismiss it...

Thanks for your very helpful vid. I have a 2010 FJ Cruiser which comes with this little jack. However, I also bought and mounted a 48" Hi-Lift jack to my roof rack because I thought this little brown jack was a joke. I think it has some limitations in off-road conditions, but I definitely have a better appreciation for the quality and usefulness. I also carry a hilift jack base and even 1 6-ton jack stand, just in case. Probably overkill. Thank you much for the education!

The other thing i carry is a rubber mat, about 30cm square, its made out of old conveyor belt rubber from a quarry. i usually chuck it on the ground then the jack ontop. its thick polyester reinforced rubber, it crushes down but protects the jack and stops it slipping off a rock or getting messed up by crap on the ground.

Well, I have the same Takeuchi jack you describe, which was brand new and realised it comes with a comprehensive tool kit too and just tried it on my boat/trailer and it worked beautifully. As you say it’s 1 to 1 gearing so needs a little muscle, but it still lifted it. I put it against my 10 tonne Kinchrome bottle jack, and it’s higher too, but so much lighter. Thank you, I’ve ditched my bottle jack to my garage.

How true ... unlike hydraulic jacks, this jack can be stored in any orientation and it will _never_ leak. And just look at its extension without any accessories!!! Sadly, I can see some prematurely swapping out perfectly good (and even great) items (Panasonic battery, this jack) for whatever 'cool' accessories are in vogue ... only, in reality, to end up with completely inferior products. 🙄

Buy a new one, mine is new. Only used 2x. The Jack and Tools are in the back seat in its proper place. Very Disappointed in Toyota. I paid $300, for the Tow.
