Actually Toyota is making a smart move here. The current Tesla dual motor gets about 405 miles on a range. And they take hours to charge. Solid state batteries will take about 10 min to charge and get 745 miles. It will make the current Tesla a dinosaur. NASA announced that they have a solid state battery on the way as well.

And because neither Toyota nor any battery company (not even CATL) has mass produced these, after 2027 Toyota won’t be ramped up to capacity. EV is useless in times of emergency. If you're trying to evacuate from a storm, how do you charge your car? Assuming if power lines haven't fallen, how will you charge your car when thousands of others also need to charge and each requiring a minimum of 2 hours! Even Tesla fast chargers slow down when it's busy

Remember when hackers shut down the entire eastern US gasoline grid? Resulting in mass shortages? Gasoline needs to be shipped from the Middle East too.... I certainly wouldn't bet on that in the long-run...

And that's why when you use a Tesla charging station you don't park next to someone else who is sharing your line. Each minute you add to one car's charging time EXPONENTIALLY increases wait time for everyone else. Now, assuming you have solved the power delivery issue mentioned above. Even 10 minutes is too long in an emergency evacuation. Because you now have 100 cars in front of you. Each taking 10 minutes. And that's assuming the payment system isn't experiencing problems in a weather event. Don't forget, these are all automated, you can't pay by cash even if you had cash. And let's hope it's not in the winter where your range is limited. Toyota has been talking about solid state batteries as have others for years. And so far, we don't have it. There's maybe another 5-10 years until we have it. Bottom line... BEVs aren't ready
