Hello and welcome, thanks for stoping by. Today is part 2 with a complete front diff/clamshell install from East Coast Gear Supply with new 5.29 gears and an ARB air locker. The ordering process was smooth and painless. ECGS really has the set up down. I recommend you call to place an order and ask questions or voice concerns, they will help get you on the right path for your needs. The front diff install is a much more involved process as compared to the rear diff. There are many more moving parts and the placement of the front diff is tight in the front end. Overall it was a slow process trying to get decent footage for you, I stopped to eat somewhere in there cause I'm always hungry. I started this install on Saturday morning preparing for a long day of wrenching in the garage, so be ready it will take a while by yourself. I also ended up installing the new spindles which added more time to the install, I will have that video up soon.As always thanks for watching, let me know if you have any questions. Not too shabby. Nice to see people using tie rod pullers instead of hit the thing with a metal hammer. Now you can do this R&R flat rate time for your friends. Only caveat would be to replace that drive seal but I'm just a bit OCD about things like that. 10/10 !!!

What gears do you recommend for 275 70 17 (32 inch) All Terrains?
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos Жыл бұрын
I will always recommend the 4.88 or 5.29. Because, inevitably you will want lager tires in the future. Happens to us all, the first set is just the beginning. Do your research on both those gear sets. Thanks for watching.

Bro what front ARB front locker did you go with? Part#? Been looking and I’m running 5.29s right now the options I can find doesn’t support 5.29s. Unless I’m reading it wrong

No worries had me tracking it down today. Per my receipt it’s ARB part number RD111, 8inch IFS 53mm carrier bearing. You can call East Coast Gear Supply to confirm exactly what you need. They will guide you. Just don’t buy anything till you know for sure.

I didn't have any issues when I changed them. I did the diff change for gearing and lockers. Are you saying the cv axle turns 3/8s each way while you're parked wheels on the ground? If you thats not great.

I have 5.29 nitro gears on my Tacoma and I’m running 85w140 heavy duty Lucas gear oil. My front diff breather hose disconnected from the diff and has been spitting out fluid, I reconnected the hose and clamped it and it’s still seeping out fluid. My question is have you experienced this and do you think it would help to run a lighter fluid like 80w 90 or stock 75w90 to fix the leak issue? My thinking is that the 85w140 is too thick and it clogs up the breather hose. Any help is much appreciated thank you in advance.
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos Жыл бұрын
A question to answer to help your self diagnose. Is it blowing off when you turn on the compressor or just driving? A couple things you can do. 1. is make sure the hose is not clogged and breather is functioning as intended. As is air is able to pass through the end easily. 2. is do not over fill the diff, once the locker is in there it takes up alot of the space the fluid used to be in. I end up putting in less than the factory stated amount. I do not have a measurement for you, it's just less. Something else you can do is extended the hose a bit higher and add an in line fuel filter. The in line fuel filter for a dirt bike or a lawn mower, get a clear one, kinda large one so you can see in it. They sell them at the auto parts store in the 2 cycle/ mower area. Sometimes they help with separating the oil and the air. Occasionally I get a little seepage at the breather tube, I have my hose clamped in with a screwable hose clamp. I hope that helps.
@DirtRoad_Chronicles
@DirtRoad_Chronicles Жыл бұрын
@@ClassyTacos first of all, thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. I don’t have a front locker so any leak is from regular driving. Last time I changed the diff fluid I filled it till the fluid went up to the fill plug. Maybe that’s more than what should really be in there? I will inspect the breather valve as well and see what could be the cause. But you don’t think the thick oil is the cause of this? Because I ordered some 80w90 to change it this weekend. It’s only my front diff also the rear seems to be fine.
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos Жыл бұрын
@@DirtRoad_Chronicles For sure no worries. I see, thanks for the clarification on the front locker. I don't think it's the thicker fluid but who knows, it's worth a shot. For the front diff I believe the factory calls for 1.6 litters, check me on that. That amount of fluid is less than the amount needed for it to come out of the fill hole, if I remember correctly. It might just be over filled. Hope that helps.
