Would you still buy a Tundra over the domestic trucks, despite the fuel economy?

I’m actually planning on it within the next couple years with a used 2018-2022. Just saving up some money since I can’t buy new.

@@drummeralex9198 If you do buy one, keep it to the pre-2019 ones because Toyota decided to delete the external transmission cooler from model year 2019 which is a dumb move.

Honestly, I'd rather sacrifice fuel economy against the VVT wizardry and subsequent lifter failure many manufacturers are throwing on deck now...

I had a 96 T-100, sold at 253,000 miles....never a problem. Current Tundra is a 1st gen $WD with tow pkg, looks and runs like new....I am a P.M.freak....I will never sell it :)

I wish I had bought my low tech rust free 2007 RCSB new, but it is a rescue that I bought cheap in 2017 when it had 270,000 undocumented hard miles on it. To bring maintenance up to speed I performed what Toyota calls their 'Special Operating Conditions' service & maintenance plus the 120,000 mile service right away. I then began to modify the suspension to make it a sport truck, this included new wheels, tires, shocks, coil springs, the SOS Performance rear only leveling / lowering kit with air-lift bags, Alcan leaf springs and a Hellwig anti-roll bar. I freed up the exhaust with a custom SS cat back from Dirty Deeds, and installed a DAP tune. The truck is quick & fast. Repairs include: new OEM headlight housings, door checks, clock spring, fuel pump, steering wheel, drive shaft & output seal, belt moldings, drivers arm rest, drivers window & lifting mechanism, AC damper servo, I also had the bed sprayed with Line-X and installed Wet Okole set covers. Earlier this year the head gasket failed in cylinder #7 at 316,000 miles, this was caused by one or all three previous owners not flushing the cooling system as often as they should have. With the engine out of the truck and torn down for repair I discovered that the previous owners also ran the engine when it was low on oil, this caused cylinder wall scoring. I found a used 3UR FE with about 80,000 miles, I replaced the head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, seals, FIPG, timing components, a new starter & alternator plus a new cooling system... my rare '07 RCSB is ready to go another 300,000 miles and the cost of repairs was far less than the cost of replacing the truck with a newer Tundra loaded with electronics that will be a problem in the future. All of that being said, my current '02 V8 4x4 Tundra work truck and the '96 V6 4x4 T100 work truck that I had before it are better trucks overall.

My only complaints on my 2010 TRD after 93000 miles are . 1) my heater box needs to be replaced because the blend door to the floor is broken, this is over 3000.00 to repair. 2) my cruise control lever on the steering column needs to be replaced.

Have you ever had a problem with mice or other small rodents setting up house in the Toyota? I have a 2001 Tundra and they get into the heater and air cleaner. I have to clean the air cleaner box and change the filter regularly and disassemble the heater fan and clean it every several months. Once they chewed up the fan wheel. We also have an Avalon and mice get into the interior and into the heater system to the cabin filter, a real pita to remove when it is covered in nuts and trash. I've never seen any evidence of mice in my Suburban in 15 years. I think it is because the Toyotas intake air from the wheel well.

My family was a Ford family for generations until they decided to raise prices for their trucks and bronos. Shame, Shame, Shame on ford for doing this to the US Farmers...
