Did our video help you? If so, consider buying us a beer: bit.ly/3feE6tJ
In this video, we show you how to replace the spark plugs on your 2nd Generation Tundra with the 4.7L V8 2UZ-FE engine. It's become apparent that there's more versions of the 2UZ-FE engine than I was aware of. I knew of the big difference between the Non-VVTi models and the VVTi models, but now I found another variation. On my brother's 2007 2nd Generation 2wd Tundra, his 2UZ engine has VVTi, but instead of having the secondary air injection switching valves under the intake manifold like I've seen on my buddy Thanh's GX470 with the 2UZ engine, the air switching valves are bolted to the valve covers.
I did some further research on this 2UZ-FE engine that has the secondary air switching valves bolted to the valve covers, and what I found is this setup was only for 2nd Generations Tundras from 2007-2009. As far as I know, no other Toyota or Lexus models that came with the 2UZ-FE engine, and also had the secondary air injection system, had the air switching valves bolted to the top of the valve covers. All the other models have the air switching valves in the valley between the heads under the intake manifold.

What I would LOVE to see on this channel is a video doing the cam seals on the VVTi 2UZ. The cam seals on the non-VVTi are easy in comparison, one bolt each and the cam gears come off. Not so on the 05-06 due to the more complicated cam gears.

The only way Sean and I have survived doing it for almost 8 years is because our primary motivator is the desire to help people. The money we make is secondary. If we were doing it for the money, we would have quit a long time ago.

Thanks Marvin. We have a 2-part video series for replacing the starter on the 2UZ-FE engine models with the secondary air injection system. It's a pain in the butt, but it does depend on what model you're working on. Tundras have a lot of engine compartment space compared to others like the Lexus GX470 we did the starter replacement on. The extra space makes it easier. kzbin.info/www/bejne/monTfGiPfJxgd5osi=n47_GFJSZj6woSPF

Hey Paul, I don't mind people pointing out when I'm wrong, but from my research, the 4.7L V8 2UZ-FE engine was available in the Toyota Tundra from 1999-2009. So Bro, if you can show me something that proves you're right and I'm wrong, send it my way. Here's something I found from a simple Google search. www.drifted.com/2uzfe/#:~:text=These%20are%20the%20cars%20that,Land%20Cruiser%20(1998%2D2011) From the link above, this is what models came with the 2UZ-FE engine: Lexus GX 470 (2002-2009) Lexus LX 470 (1998-2007) Toyota Land Cruiser (1998-2011) Toyota 4Runner (2002-2009) Toyota Tundra (1999-2009) Toyota Sequoia (2000-2009) So, the 2007-2009 2nd Gen Tundras came available with the 2UZ-FE engine. I'm far from perfect and I make mistakes, but I also do plenty of research for the videos I make. The fact that my brother's 2007 2nd Gen Tundra has the 2UZ-FE engine proves you're wrong, and no, it didn't get an engine swap.

@TheDesertRat31
@TheDesertRat31 8 ай бұрын
@TimmyTheToolman highlander, probably camry, Sienna, I think. The 2GR is the transverse version of the 1GR for front wheel drives. Many of the vehicles that use it need to have the wiper cowl and wipers removed, as well as the intake plenum to have room to get at the plugs on the rear bank. However, after I did it the first time, it's not as bad as it first seemed. As you know, being organized with the parts is important.

Hey Timmy, I saw on your story on Instagram the other day you had a picture of the KPOFFROAD ocotgon and cam tab kit with the RC greaseable LCA bolts on a truck. Are you making a video about that putting them on your 4Runner? I am interested, I currently want to get just the octagons and bolts but wondering if it's really worth it to get the greaseable bolts. Thanks!
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 8 ай бұрын
Yep, we are editing the footage currently. To answer your question about the greaseable bolts, hard to say at this time since we have no runtime on them.. but in theory, these should work out great to get grease to where it needs to be without having to remove you’re entire control arm…. The video will focus on the installation of a set of Solo Motorsports lower control arms. - Sean
@GarrettHMTB
@GarrettHMTB 8 ай бұрын
@@TimmyTheToolman ahh I see I remember seeing the solo motorsports arm on there too. Sweet, thanks. I’ll be looking forward to that video. Yeah I was quite interested with the grease able bolts but they are quite expensive just for bolts lol. 270 bucks there for the octagons and greaseable bolts.. yikes. When I thought about it though I kinda questioned how they would even work. From my understanding it would only grease the shank part of the bolt and the inner shave sleeve it self of the bushing which the bolts sits in. If I’m not wrong isn’t the LCA bolt going to be stationary when tightened down? The LCA bushings rotates around the bolt sleeve not the bolt. The bolt clamps down the sleeve as well because of the pinching force on both sides. So unless I’m incorrect the greaseable bolts would be kind of pointless other than to grease the stationary LCA bolt to prevent rust from forming lol.
@GarrettHMTB
@GarrettHMTB 8 ай бұрын
@@TimmyTheToolman even with the greaseable bolts it’s not getting to the ID of the bushing, only greasing the ID of the bolt sleeve and the OD of the bolt. Also for context I’m talking about poly bushings. Like a white line LCA bushing which I bought. I guess it depends on what design bushings you buy? Unless all of the poly bushings are the same design for our LCA . Not sure if I’m over thinking this or I’m incorrectly interpreting how the whiteline bushings work

@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 8 ай бұрын
I know that, and I said it makes no difference. I just wanted to keep them in their same position and put a label on them. In the future, if he gets a misfire, the coil packs will already be labeled so I can swap coil pack positions as part of my diagnosing procedure to see if the misfire follows the coil pack. So, numbering them does have potential value in the future. You need to think outside the box a little.
