Jeff, These are nice vehicles. You know why these are nice vehicles? Because they are still HYBRIDS. They are NOT Full Electric. I would not want a full electric vehicle in today's world. Plus they lose so much Range due to cold weather. I am curious to see how much Electric Range the RAV4 Prime (and Prius) gets in the winter. We have the 'Regular' RAV4 Hybrid. It is a practical gas saving vehicle. Our is still 'Fast Enough'. I can do 0-60 in just over 7 seconds. That is fast for me. I can still get up to highway speeds safely. Cars of the past that we owned did not go that fast. I am talking about V8's and V6's too. Our 2007 Camry V6 can do 0-60 in around 6 seconds. However the cars of the 60's. 70's and 80's were slower then our little Camry. (I'm talking about stock family sedans. Not muscle cars) So the RAV4 Prime is nice and worth it in my opinion for those that want something that will do straight up electric. However, for my wife and I the Regular RAV4 Hybrid is perfect for us.

I have been considering trading in my 4Runner for a RAV4 Prime for commuting to work. I just wish it had about ten more miles of EV range because my commute is 52 miles round trip and I could not plug it in at work. I would love to make my commute all electric but still have the hybrid option for road trips like when I go visit my daughter who is away at college.

It really isn't that hard to find. I live in Wisconsin, bought a 2022 RAV4 Prime in March, got it totaled in August, and will be picking up my new 2023 RAV3 Prime in January. You just got to put in some work and make calls around the country. They are definitely out there.

@@chibuzo2010I also live in the Midwest. I actually work at a dealer, we are getting a lot more shipments. The time is coming where dealer mark ups will be no more. The dealers that are still doing it, are doing it bc they can still get away with it. There’s dealers in my area that are offering no mark ups to get people to buy cars.

I bought my 2021 Prime in Texas for MSRP and I’m now looking to buy a 2023 Prime for MSRP. The same dealer that I bought my 2021 Prime is now charging 5K over and I told them no when they gave me a call for an incoming 2023 Prime. Someone will pay 5K over for the Prime but it won’t be me. 👍

One thing I found weird is that it has 3 sets of batteries and not 1 or at most 2. 1 lead acid battery for starting engine, 1 battery pack for the hybrid drive, and 1 battery pack 17kwh for EV mode. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that seems unnecessarily complicated

Does Toyota will fix the cable issue underneath the car? Canadian customers had issues concerning the rustinf cable power from motor to the system in the back.

Got mine almost a week ago and love it! The Supersonic red w/ black top looks really sharp. Mine is the Windchill white with black top. Looks classy. Haven't filled it up yet from the full tank of gas the dealer sent me off with (350 mile drive home from the dealer and 120 miles of commuting in the past week). Probably won't have to fill it up for a good long while since the 40 mile EV range is more than enough for me every day. The wireless charger is the same, crummy unit in my 2022 Prius Prime though. It does not work with Magsafe iPhones.

I think the infotainment systems is a big improvement as the previous one looked outdated and and is also fairly useless as an infotainment system. I have a 2021 Prime SE and I couldn’t even get the Toyota apps to work. I just wonder at why they designed the screen with about 1.5 inches of blank space on both sides. I got my SE for about $34, 000 after tax rebates, federal and state. I know Toyota can get a way with it, but it annoys me that they don’t put the power seats on the passenger side on an XSE. I’d like to see them get more colors as I don’t really love any of the colors the Prime comes in. However, it’s a great car and it’s doing everything it’s supposed to do and I look forward to driving it even after 1.5 years. Okay, there is one thing it doesn’t live up to in the way that it should. It was advertised to go 600 miles but it doesn’t really do that unless you are willing to drive about 120 miles after the gauge says you have 0 range. It seems that it leaves about 3 gallons of gas in reserve. Not the worst thing, but annoying.

I think you missed a lot of stuff. I heard the passenger seats now adjusts up/down? Also I believe the accent lighting has changed.. i.,e there is now door panel lights on all of the window controls/locks. I also believe the LED lights is standard on the cabin? Is there more headroom now in passenger area with moonroof? I thought that cut into the headroom quite a bit previously? Also.. what about the 360 degree view and rear backup camera.. those had such bad quality before? Have those been upgraded? I also heard the totally changed the navigation system.. I hated the old nav system? Appreicate any info on these !!

Noted that not many people get a front hood deflector, not practical or looks bad??? Any advice?? Also note the gap between the headlight and the hood............ and where are the fog lamps looks like you get a second set of either driver lights or are they just decorative lights?

This is a better car than the Model Y, but you cannot find RAV4 Prime in the middle of the country and will cost a lot more than the Y with dealer markups being common. With the IRA rebate and no dealer hassle, guess which car is going to be bought by more people.

It's a shame that Toyota isn't producing way more of these. It's the perfect blend between ICE and EV that you literally can't buy. Then again, they probably have a huge profit margin selling only a few XSE's rather than saturating the market with an affordable LE. I have a Fusion Energi that I would love to upgrade if these were readily available. Oh well, at least the Energi is paid off.

I really love the RAV4 Prime, but my goodness the add-ons that Southeast Toyota Distributors put on are ridiculous. $73 for usb four cables? No thanks. 2 oil changes and tire rotations should cost you know more than $200, and the "exterior paint sealant and interior protector" for the remaining $500 seems like a waste of money. There are plenty of products you can apply to your car to protect the clear coat that are under $100. But then they are hitting you up for another $650 for "paint protection", uggh. And you don't have a chance to decline these options as they are "installed" at the port when the vehicle is delivered. To me, it seems like gouging.

Why isn't Toyota making more of these? It is inexcusable that these are still so scarce this far after launch. Most brands have resolved most of their supply chain issues, but with Toyota it seems to be getting worse. I purchased a loaded 2023 Outback because I couldn't get one of these back in Dec. I love the Outback, but I regret buying it because the fuel economy is nowhere near the EPA rating. I drive 25000 mi per year, so 25 mpg is hard to take, especially using premium fuel (my Outback has a turbo which prefers premium). I am considering selling the Outback IF I can find a Prime XSE at MSRP or less.

Are there any other Toyota owners out there who are pissed off that when you start the car, the display comes up with the "Experience Drive Connect" banner? It stays there till you hit a button to change the display to something else. I paid $50k for my R4P, and I'm forced to look at an ad for an optional (and overpriced) add on?

You can charge the battery using the engine, with one of the buttons in the center console, but it means consuming more gas to charge the batteries, so it’s up to you!

What happened is that they passed the 200,000 mark initially dropping them, then the rule changed to remove that standard, but at the same time the rule included language that said it has to have final assembly in the USA. So it's not included on the rebate because the final assembly is in Japan.

Toyota still doesn't offer any trim levels other than XSE and SE, so not what I'm wanting. The glare coming off the back of the steering wheel onto that digital instrument cluster was really bad. I'm hoping that was just the camera angle doing that.

Glare on these screens is a true annoyance with almost all of these non-recessed screens. The style these days is to paste a screen on the dash like you were duct taping an iPad on as an afterthought, and because it's not recessed with a hood or shading of some sort, you get annoying glare. They also use glossy screen cover making it worse rather than matte finish that would help. Matte doesn't look as attractive or glassy modern when off, so they use gloss, which is terrible for glare.

This is the 5th year of this model , I think it's about time for a refresh. Toyota usually refreshes new models by the 4th year , like the grill , front end and tail lights. The previous model came out in 2013 and received a refresh for 2016 (4th year).

The 4th Generation Rav4 was from 2013-2018 which is 6 years. 2023 will be the 5th year for the 5th Generation Rav4 so maybe at least one more year. 2025 might be the year for the 6th Generation.

The total $ 49,784 can buy a luxury 2023 Lexus NX 300 or 350. Lexus is way better quiet and high performance due to excellent insulation.

Not everyone wants the shortcomings of an EV. I own an EV and they’re overrated at the moment. Besides, the Rav4 will outlast all current gen EVs. When charging infrastructure is as ubiquitous as gas stations and batteries are half the cost of what they are currently I will consider EVs the superior choice. Right now they’re just something that smug and pompous idiots like to brag about.

The charging infrastructure in the northern Midwest is not quite there yet, especially for our cold winters. And for the price of a Prime you could only get the short range Model 3 which is not really comparable in terms of utility. I don't even bring up markups because I've found lots of Primes at or very near MSRP.
