I’ve got the same car and have made that same tail light repair; this was a very good guide. The sliding door problem is a broken cable, you can see it dangling inside the door. This is a very common problem in these cars and was even fixed under special 10 year warranty by Toyota for a while. It’s a simple fix with like a $50 part. I hope the owner at least got this car for a very good price given its salvage status. It’s an incredibly reliable car, and commonly goes many hundreds of thousands of mlies, so if you can overlook the trim and bodywork problems, and don’t find any major mechanical problems, it could be a great car.

Today I learned. Thank you! I’ve had replacement lights in my Amazon cart for ages because I thought they were LED. I’m so glad it is just bulbs.

I'm surprised that a state such as California, with all of its rules and regulations on pretty much everything, doesn't have a mandatory strict safety inspection of sorts required before issuing a salvage title. Some salvages are actually not bad deals if one is careful and knows what to look for, and the salvage is only because the insurance company, for whatever reason, deemed the repairs to be too expensive to do. In this case, however, based on the difficulty in closing that right side sliding door, the damages could very well include a bent chassis. Only time would tell what other things crop up with a vehicle that was as badly damaged as this one was. I hope that the purchaser of this vehicle didn't pay too much for this vehicle and/or knew what the possible pitfalls of such a purchase were.

Peter, I hope you can confirm on bulb handling. Some people say to never use bare hands. I believe that is only for HID bulbs and not halogen bulbs, due to HID running very hot.

He doesn't reply for time and liability. People will argue with him for anything and he doesn't need or want that bad energy so I will add what I can for you. Some people said that's for very hot headlight bulbs. Some said it's the little mini bulbs. Honestly unless the hands are very greasy I don't think they matter. Going over a bump and your car bottoms out because the struts are old would do more to end the filament than so called hot oils naturally occuring from fingertips

Never buy a vehicle that has a rebuilt or salvage title.

Very sad state of the situation. Toyota fannhears of copart and desperate but doesnt know what to look for and buya sight unseen. Rare are the good rebullders bjt flippers are a dime a dozen. You see many of their channels on KZbin saying "i made 3000 in 3 days flipping this junk!" Very unfortunate but good for you to keep it one more time for the console repair. This guy doesnt know anything if he cant check for the bulbs. Also i hate that the OE battery maker wont include a handle. So weird of interstate to do that.

You should not buy a car with a savage title. There is a good reason why they have a savage title.

How is it? The sellers fault it’s completely the buyers decision to purchase a piece of garbage, car uneducated , poor credit , wine taste beer budget probably has no money that leads people to vehicles like this. It’s no one else’s fault but the person that purchases junk.
