I am a huge car fan and my parents looked at both minivans back in 2009 for 2010 model. We needed one for long road trips and more room for hauling and extra passengers coming with us. We picked the sienna, definately for families with young children as well.

Odyssey is much better in my opinion, the current sienna is outdated and a boring interior. The odyssey has more comfortable seats and better features. The sienna still has halogen basic tail lights where as the odyssey has led. The odyssey has a newer front fascia and led daytime running lights. Even tho the sienna has a bit more horsepower, the odyssey is still faster with a 0-60 time of only 6.8 seconds, where as the sienna is at 7.3 seconds. Overall the sienna is very out dated and in need of a refresh.

I was interested in buying the Sienna until I saw the safety ratings of the two minivans. The AWD will be a huge selling point where snow dominates the north. I don't have that problem so AWD is irrelevant to me. My Odyssey with 10 speed transmission will spin the tires in first and second gears, so I'm not sure I would benefit from a little extra horsepower. The Sienna desperately needs to be redesigned and include LED head lights (the night time field of vision is much better with LED). New vehicles should not look like they are 15 years old.

The Sienna has Hids available and is getting redesigned for 2021. The Sienna absolutely dominates the minivan market here because if you don't have AWD you don't leave your driveway.

Creative Dragon the sienna has hids with halogen fog lights/high beams on the top level limited premium trim, most expensive model. The odyssey has full led headlights and led fog lights in the touring trim, 5th highest trim. Also the sienna is very outdated and in need of a refresh. AWD is best for those in a “snowy” climate. AWD is irrelevant here in California. The sienna is also missing out on many newer features such as, auto start stop, digital dash, led headlights on higher trim levels, has 8 gears compared to the 10 of the odyssey, magic sliding seats, led drls on the lower end models, led taillights, odyssey has a more advanced lane keep assist system and adaptive cruise control, remote start, all in all the sienna is very outdated. Hopefully in 2021 Toyota comes out with a class-leading model.
