Getting my first highlander in a couple months! It’s supposed to start being built end of April! The wife and I waited over two years researching vehicles and saving and despite my research, wants, needs, etc. swaying every now and again, all roads kept leading back to the Highlander. I’ve never owned a Toyota before, but hoping it stays in our family until the kids are old and use it as their first vehicle.

@@Adrenadriven7 definitely a good looking vehicle and I can see why it’d be a good fit for a lot of people, but it’s a bit too small for us. Although, I know there’s larger mid-size SUV’s. There’s simply a trade-off for every vehicle and the highlander fits that pocket for us the most. I’m coming from a 2011 Jeep Patriot that doesn’t have power locks or windows, no screens, simply basic and I have over 90k miles with no major issues, so anything is an upgrade. Price wise, I know there’s cheaper out there, but I’ve had the Jeep for 12 years. I’m looking for longevity and I know I’ll find it with the Toyota. That’s not to say other vehicles don’t last a long time, but you can’t argue Toyota’s reliability. Again, for us, it just makes sense.

@@Whatjoshlikes they both have poor third row leg room and the highlander does have a larger cargo capacity but the cx-9 is more luxurious and more fun to drive. Mazda is also one of the most reliable manufacturers also the cx-9 is built in Japan while the highlander in the United States Im not saying the cx-9 will be more reliable but just thought I would throw that in there to help make my case. You definitely didn’t make the wrong choice buying the highlander but just wanted to know what made you choose it

@@Adrenadriven7 for sure! All valid points. We’re a family of 4 now so that cargo space is a pretty important factor to us. I haven’t driven the Mazda CX-9, but I have driven the highlander and really enjoy it. More importantly, I can imagine driving it for long future road-trips we want to go on. I appreciate your insight for sure and admittedly, you had me researching Mazda’s again since you made this comment, but I’m definitely settled on the Highlander. I’ll check back in when I get it and let you know my thoughts if you’d like?

I am probably buying 2020-2022 sequoia, so completely different animal. Highlander doesn't compete with telluride, grand highlander would, it would be expensive and would have few features but would be pretty close and may be better for those who keep car longer or want hybrid.

I just purchased the 2023 Highlander XLE, I'm more particular to the 2022 model of Highlander. The 2.4 L with the turbo gets worse gas mileage than my 2019 Avalon XLE that had the V-6. I may trade later on this year or next year for the 2022 model. I drove both, and I liked the 2022 mosldel better. The reason I didn't get it is because the interest rate on the brand new 2023 model was so good I could not pass it up.

What mileage do you get? My GF got a 2022 Highlander XLE last summer. I made sure she got it once Toyota announced the motor change to the 2.4L with turbo. It’s a great vehicle. She has a lead foot tho, so she gets mid-high teens mpg
