Hi. The "Link/Act" text on the fifth port means Link/Activity, and not Link/Account, and it refers to the indicator led on all the ports. It's only placed on top of port5 because of lack of space above the other ports
@Wanderer001_Reviews4 жыл бұрын
Good to know.
@waterfelon333 жыл бұрын
Sorry for bumping this comment but does that mean the 5th port is totally equal to other ones unlike what's being said in the video?
3 жыл бұрын
It functions like all the others. By convention, it is the one you use for uplink. I'm not sure if this has more capacity (it is a separate module after all), and therefore better suited for uplink. The module seperation is likely just because the port modules comes in 4-port and 1-port configurations. You'll see this in any switch and router
@DlcEnergy Жыл бұрын
Link = Solid Activity = Flashing They just so happen to put it over the last port's led. And the last port isn't joined with the rest since they're not grouped in 5's. All the ports are equal. It just appears to stand out because of these reasons.

"Link Account port" LOL. that is just the label of all the LEDs (link/activity). On a domestic unmanaged switch all ports are the same, you just create the habit to use the first or last port to use as uplink to a router, sort of mimicking what you do on an enterprise switch that usually uses the last port as uplink, some models even have a separate uplink port.

I do not see a reason why you could not. Just might need a very large power bank to keep it running.

Hi, I need some help here. I have 3 cat8 cables I acquired so I figure why not use them. What cable do I use from my Comcast gateway to the switch?
@Wanderer001_Reviews3 жыл бұрын
Generally for home use cat 8 cable is overkill . Most of the time you can get away with Cat6 cable . But if you have it and it's a short distance Between your Comcast Gateway and the switch then your cat 8 cable should be fine .

@@Wanderer001_Reviews thanks. I was also wondering if it’s okay to have 2 next gen consoles off the 2 Ethernet/rear gateway? I was told it’s a bridged connection and even though it’s 2 ports, it’s like 1 port. I didn’t know if me and my son would contradict each other over traffic at times.

Noobie question here. My cable modem from my ISP has 2 ethernet ports (A and B) at the back. Is it perfectly fine for my desktop pc to directly connect to ethernet port A and have my wifi router to occupy ethernet port B? what are the implications, pros and cons of this setup? thanks in advance for your response.
@Wanderer001_Reviews4 жыл бұрын
So in a set up like mine where my modem only as 2 port out that is connected to my wifi router I would have a desk top plugged into my wifi router. The more things that you run wired to your wifi router the faster you run out of plugs. This switch lets you add more wired connections should you run out of them.

I have a TP-Link wifi extender for my gaming room since the Wifi doesn't reach, can I connect this port to the wifi extender or does it need to be connected to the router specifically?

@@Wanderer001_Reviews I just want to get rid of any wi-fi equipment and keep it simple. Idk if you’re here but my house already has a router but my room is too far to connect an ethernet cord to my laptop, would I be able to buy this to be able to increase my ping? How would it work?
@Wanderer001_Reviews2 жыл бұрын
Well this would still connect to your computer via either net. It plugs into your router to give you more ports, then you would attache something to this box via either net. Sound like you might do better with a wifi mesh network. If you did that you could have one of the mesh nodes in your room and run either net right off of that.

I had this working plug and play, but then noticed my speed had dropped some months later - i went direct to router and it was as it should be. Then plugged back to the switch to compare and i can't get an internet connection now. I changed nothing, literally just unplugged ethernet on back of pc tried another then back to original. Have reset everything in every order, checked all connections, reinstalled network card, tried manually setting IPs, still nothing.

@@Wanderer001_Reviews yes it was all ports; I woke up today and it miraculously worked - so I am extremely confused about the outage haha. I'm current using 2 wifi routers, one is used as a switch only. The master one configures the IPs and the second one is just a dump switch. My question is, if i assign an IP to a MAC address on my master wifi router and then connect the router to the switch and my PC to this switch, will this solution work for me ? I'm using my PC as a NAS and KODI is connecting via fixed IP address.
@Wanderer001_Reviews4 жыл бұрын
What you're looking for might be a little Beyond what this switch can handle. This is really meant to just be a plug-and-play option. However tp-link does offer other switches that offer configurability unlike this one.

@@Wanderer001_Reviews I mean the Wifi router controls the IP to Mac binding, so this switch should technically work. I'm not a expert but ye.
