I've just set up a Deco M5 system as a router from my Virgin Hub 3 modem straight from your video. I was using a TP Link Archer C7 in access mode prior to that and it was good but I got greedy and wanted better :). I would recommend it as a budget option for improving the VM Hub's performance. That said, the Deco blows it out of the water for coverage and, thanks to your video, ease of setting it up. You covered everything and I was up and running in half an hour. Thanks.

Really useful video, I also have virgin media broadband here in the UK. Had the M5 set up working perfectly at my old house, moved recently and following the Virgin install went to set up the M5 again. Virgin media hub 3 in modem mode, M5 working well but virgin TiVo box clearly doesn’t like it as none of the catch up works, error codes showing network cable unplugged, the cables are plugged in. Had to revert back and take the router out of modem mode. In the previous house I used power line adapters to connect two TiVo boxes in order to watch recorded shows in the kitchen on the lounge tv. Question is do I need the deco set to access mode, with an Ethernet cable connecting the virgin router to my netgear 8 port switch, sitting next to the router?
@FrimleyComputing2 жыл бұрын
Your Tivo boxes should have catchup TV available via the Virgin cable directly so shouldn't need a network connection. On my setup the Virgin line comes into a splitter where one cable goes to the VM hub and the other goes to the Tivo box. Catchup TV all works fine without my VM hub. Saying all that though I don't have the Tivo v6 box, which you may have of course. If you want to have the VM hub in routing mode then yes you should put the Deco system into access point mode and connect the main unit to any LAN port on the VM hub. then in the VM hub settings disable the WiFi. You can then connect your network switch to another port on the VM hub and connect your Tivo boxes to the network switch, if they need to be connected to the internet and can't get catchup via their VM input cable.

Should I disable the WiFi on my existing modem? Would it interfere with the deco WiFi

Hi, I'm trying to set this up with a virgin media hub. I was wondering, when you click 'i don't have a router' the next step says connect to an ethernet connection... Where do I connect it to?? Do you connect it to one of the ports on the back of the Hub?

Hi there, thanks for this, can I just sense check something with you? I've a Deco mesh, E4, at the mo and want to update it to these as I've got a 200mb speed on my new contract. If I've got this right, I can put one of these into my current mesh, assign it as the main Deco and then plug this into the router? It'll then reboot the mesh and all is fine? All advice welcomed!
@FrimleyComputing3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. You want the M5 as your mesh router and then add the E5's as nodes into the Mesh (I'd do a factory reset on each of the E5's before starting the setup though to avoid any potential issues). 👍

Just a question - if i was using the Deco on wifi, could I then use the ethernet cable for my computer? My computer doesnt have wifi, but has an athernet port (my modems throughout the house arent directly connected to ethernet)

Yes you can

Hi there, can I connect this directly to the ISP provided modem/ router? any issues like double NAT?
@FrimleyComputing3 жыл бұрын
You can. All you need to do is to set the devices to "bridge" mode and they'll then just act as a mesh AP and all services such as NAT etc will be done via the ISP router as normal.

I have virgin media , and the technician recommended these , he said plug it into the virgin router and set the virgin router to modem mode , and then plug the Deco into the virgin router . Is that what you did only I didnt see your virgin router and will your settings be the same if I did this setup , thanks
@FrimleyComputing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, that's correct. Put the Virgin Hub 3 into modem mode then reboot it after you see the magenta coloured light. Then connect the 1st Deco into the top LAN port on the hub. Then power on the Deco wait until it's started up fully. Then power off the Virgin hub, wait 15 seconds, then power it back on and your Deco can then be setup using the app on the phone. The Virgin hub is flakey when going into modem mode and in my experience it always needs a second reboot before the Deco can get a WAN IP address.

If i change my router do i need to reinstall my Deco
@FrimleyComputing2 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you've got the Deco router setup. Personally, I'd reset the Deco's and set them up again.

@@JasonLeaman I'll start off by stating that Frimely Computing has been most patient with your ignorance! Me, not so much... The word Route is also phonetically pronounced 'root' within the US English language. I've heard many English (UK) associates and friends refer to it as a 'rooter'. You really shouldn't presume to be so narrow-minded with your speech. #PEABRAIN
