In this video we take a look at the new TP-Link EAP235-Wall access point. This is a great in-wall AP that can contend with other enterprise access points

Thank you for posting more TP-Link content! I recently bought a bunch of Omada hardware and am finding there's a huge lack of info out there, especially when compared to other ecosystems like Ubiquiti/Unifi. There are some issues I hope they address soon (mDNS, established-related rules, proper gateway level ACLs, etc) but for the price, I can't really complain.

Hello, could you please enlighten me more relatively to the mDNS, established-related rules, proper gateway ACLs, etc.? I was going to go the Omada route until I saw this comment. Thanks

@@rjduraocosta Well I typed out a huge detailed comment then my KZbin app decided to delete it for no reason before I could hit send. I don't feel like writing it out again so basically you can't do mDNS from one VLAN to another which is a deal breaker for people with a lot of IoT devices like chromecasts, etc. You also can't configure an established-related firewall rule meaning devices on a restricted VLAN can't respond even if the request was initiated by a device on a trusted VLAN. Furthermore, LAN to LAN firewall rules are not possible at the gateway/router level, only at the switch and AP level which means you need to buy a switch even if you only have a couple wired devices and have no need for the switch.

Thanks Cody for the review, and please continue with the TP-Link content. If you could state the price range for the product, would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for another excellent review. It seems to me that TP-Link is on the right track, but still lacks details to cover other markets. TP-Link EAP235 only has one color to offer, maybe I'm wrong. The important thing is to evaluate if it works technically well, and it seems that it does. Let see your next video comparing TP-Link Wall Plate Access Point vs UniFi version.

While the benefits of a Wall AP seem obvious, could you say something about the downsides compared to an "ordinary" AP, i.e. without the "wall" at the end of the name? After all, those can also be mounted to a wall and the EAP-235-wall could also be put on a ceiling, right? (though not ideal for using the ethernet ports, LOL)

Curious, if you had a few of these around linked together are you able to set up a mesh network that would auto switch your connection to the best wifi signal?

Yes, it supports mesh (802.11s) and fast transition (802.11r).

Can the Ethernet ports be managed as if the devices were plugged into an Omada switch?

My question is, Can I setup this access point without using a central control panel?

You should try host ingthe speedtest locally so your ISP internet doesn't affect the results

Does it have seamless roaming? I know the new wifi 6 do. But this one is not listed. If not how is the transition from this one to the other ones?

I'm wondering if you can connect the uplink port when the device is mounted on normal wall? When there is no junction box.

It's easy peasy when the controller is on the same vlan..but when the controller is on different vlan.. the EAP will disconnect..

I did not know the TP-Link EAP235-Wall worked with the Unifi controller software.

Cody - thanks. The whole Omada portal looks like a clone of the Ubiquiti one to me.

They must have licensed Ubiquiti’s software out or something. Pretty much everything looks like it’s just a slightly different skin / theme on it

Thx for the coverage Cody. I wonder if TP Link licensed the Ubiquiti software or if they just blatantly copied it. Being a Chinese company, I will be staying VERY far away from their products!
