@@UltimateTechHub It's my day job. Tbh, home networking will get more and more "needed" especially as 802.3bt equipment increases Theoretically, you could power up your laptop or even a TV through an ethernet port, if both ends support 802.3bt and the power is less than 90W My own TV pulls 80w, and newer downgraded harsher EPC ratings means companies are forced to compete on efficiency, yet again which should also be interesting.

great video, I just wonder would you be able to use full potential of the EAP 670? as you know it is 2.5G , but the switch and router are not! I'm looking for the same setup for my large house and the EAP 670 seems to be much more stronger and more antenna compare to EAP 610.

I am currently using an all Unbiquiti Unifi system, but I am becoming frustrated at some of the availability of hardware, and also some of the slightly weird software bugs. I also have an old USG Pro that needs replacing as it is not keeping up. I am using a SOHO network, with 3 VLANS - Main, Camera and Guest, with possibly wanting to add another VLAN for IoT. The Guest network has a landing page, but is free access. Would it be better to look at the Omada, given the price of just updating the USG Pro ?
@UltimateTechHub11 ай бұрын
Omada is pretty easy to use and setup and the price is cheaper than Ubiquiti but you already have a Unifi system so I would update the USG pro. It just makes more sense and I don't want you to spend more money than you have to. If you plan on selling the Unifi system then yes get an Omada system you won't regret it. Thank you for watching.

Does SDN “require” cloud as a definite? Also, the software OS that the manager software runs on.. is it windows only?
@UltimateTechHub2 жыл бұрын
With SDN its basically using the controller combined with app and no cloud needed. As you know the controller is not necessary since you PC/Server does the same thing. Also MAC has an App for Omada. Hope this answers your questions. By the way I prefer not using the Cloud to run the hardware but I'm old school!! Lol

I run from cloud hosting or dependencies. I’m also watching Microsoft actions, new OS and other software… you do not own. Anything created with their software.. they get a copy. (Spreadsheets, Word docs, received Word docs Even, etc. They threw money at Linux Consortium way back, now on board, embedding softeare that is increasingly showing up in many Distros. Do not be shocked if they close down 6 months plus out. I have a program that removes all their imbedded software in all Linux distros I use. Quantum internet will roll out and replace current internet. That will have hundreds of benefits. I used internet while it was being built. (Showing age!) lol. It’s time for huge change in that entire arena. I’m looking forward to leveraging the new internet features! Disabled and forced retired, I still get involved with huge projects for free. I need to describe my network environment and have you guide me to set it up properly. That is not my area of expertise. I would be humbled! I am setting up for humanitarian projects in USA and abroad. Many opportunities coming! Position yourself to leverage that. Can you assist me?

What I don't like about the AP is that it is too big for my taste as it stand up as soar thumb wherever you put it. Besides, my possible new home which all wired with Cat5e does not have any place on the ceiling where those types of APs will not look so bad. Great educational video and thank you for it.

Look into the EAP615; it's a rectangular shape wall-mount AP. Otherwise, wireless routers might look better sitting on a shelf or something similar; most can be set to AP mode.

so I have been looking for a solution to be able to connect both of our homes with a site to site VPN and I believe after watching your video this might be the best solution. We currently have Deco X 50 routers in both homes. I am guessing that I could switch those to function as access points while connecting them to this router at which point both of the VPN routers would be talking to each other for a site to site connection. Am I on the right track? Thanks.

I have basic home network requirements and have a low level of computer technical knowledge. I have drafted a network diagram that starts with a ER7206 -Omada Gigabit VPN Router, connecting to a TL-SG1210MP unmanaged switch (chosen for simplicity) and finally a DEco X50-PoE V2. I can share the diagram but not sure how to attach. My question is in this construct would I benefit from the implementation of an Omada Controller? And if I don't have a Omada Controller what would I be missing out on? Keen to hear your thoughts.

Mike. Question 1: Do you always need to buy the VPN Router as the first device from the internet? Or is there another way to do a firewall directly to a Switch? Question 2. I was contemplating Going FANLESS and that leaves smaller POE routers for that task for cameras and POE access points. i could still get a 24-28 port fanless Switch with 10GB SFP+ ports for future upgrades. From the switch, connect a 8-10 port POE fanless routers for POE cameras and Access Points. Would that work, or does that slow things down being one more line down in the chain? Whats your thoughts on another recommended system and parts along that route?
@UltimateTechHub Жыл бұрын
You can buy a regular wireless router if you want. Regular routers have a firewalls built in. Yes, you need the router to be the first device in the chain. Then the switch after that. POE switches and routers are usually fan less and you can connect another switch to a another switch without seeing any type of slowdowns. Netgear and ASUS make fantastic routers with VPNs available as well. Although I would use all Omada products in this configuration because they work so well together. Hope this answers your questions. Keep me posted.

I have also heard the opposite of this, with Ubiquiti Unifi software being buggy with flakey implementation and bad updates. I have also heard TP Link switches, and even had a couple myself, lasting years with no failure. I have Unifi setup currently, and I have had 2 cloudkey's and 1 Gen 2 16 port switch fail under warranty. I won't say Unifi is horrible because of that, but I am highlighting all companies can have a bad run of hardware. Sofware though, That is what is making me look at an alternative to Unifi.
